Overview of the role

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Admissions, the Alumni Relations Officer will be responsible for expanding and developing the school’s alumni relations programme in order to strengthen relationships between the school and its alumni, including former pupils from Harrogate Ladies’ College and Highfield Prep School.  

The successful candidate will lead the operational management of the school’s established alumni association (the HCU), and will work closely with HCU Executive Members as well as growing new relationships with former pupils of Highfield.

The successful candidate will ideally have a marketing background with strong communication skills and experience of writing newsletters and arranging events.   The ideal candidate will be organised, reliable, creative and driven.  Previous experience in a similar role within the education sector would be beneficial.

The role is 2 days a week (8.30am until 5.30pm), with the actual days to be decided with the successful candidate.  There is also flexibility to spread the hours (16 hours per week in total), over more than 2 days if required.

Main Areas of Responsibility

• Developing an exciting, innovative and longstanding Alumni Relations strategy

• Maintaining, managing and expanding the Alumni Database

• Writing, producing and managing the distribution of alumni communication including electronic and printed publications

• Organising and attending alumni reunion and networking events in the UK and overseas

• Managing and developing on-line alumni communications via social media 

• Managing and maintaining the alumni association web content

• Working with staff across the school to increase engagement between alumni and the current school community  

• Working with, and further expanding, the network of volunteer regional alumni co-ordinators 

Key Skills

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills, experience and qualities:

• Outstanding ability to engage with individuals of all ages and backgrounds in an authentic, professional and meaningful manner

• Experience of managing customer facing events

• Excellent copy writing skills

• Experience of digital marketing including web and social media communication

• Experience of managing and maintaining databases

• An understanding of GDPR / Data Protection regulations and requirements would be beneficial

• Excellent communication and relationship skills

• Highly organised with strong administration skills

• Ability to work to deadlines, prioritise workloads and work under own initiative

• An understanding of and passion for education

• Strong IT skills

• Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends, including being away from home where required
