Alternative Provisioner Practitioner

We are a Multi Academy Trust comprising of six secondary schools, one primary school, and two alternative provisions, with over 700 employees and over 5,000 students, based in Dudley and Staffordshire in the West Midlands.

Both Greenhill Alternative Learning Campus in Halesowen and Invictus Revive Learning Centre in Dudley aim to support young people in KS3 and 4 who have been unable to achieve in a mainstream setting.

We are seeking an alternative provision practitioner to support young people who are at risk of permanent exclusion from school; both pastorally and academically.  This is a fixed term post with potential for a permanent position. Invictus Education Trust AP 

Working under guidance of the AP Learning Manager the successful candidate will provide both academic and pastoral support to students in alternative provision to overcome barriers to learning in order to achieve excellent outcomes.

Regular duties would include: 

• Work with staff and professional agencies in planning, evaluating and adjusting learning activities as appropriate.  
• Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate restorative practice strategies including restorative conversations to resolve conflict. Ensuring positive relationships with both students and parent/carers. 
• Provide academic coaching to allow students to make progress in fast track weeks and catch up sessions for secondary subject areas such as GCSE English, Maths, Film Studies etc. 
• Deliver accreditation courses as well as topical workshops and 1-2-1 interventions to groups of young people. 
• Support teaching staff by preparing assessments, tasks and resources for lessons including the deliverance of tailored strategies to assist students who have SEND. 
• Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, positive conduct, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection. Reporting all concerns to the appropriate person. 
• Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/professionals, in liaison with the appropriate staff, to support achievement and progress of pupils. 
• Implement planned supervision of pupils during lunchtimes.  
• Assist in organising enrichments visits that support the alternative provision curriculum offer.  
• Supervise pupils on visits, expeditions and residential experiences.

You will need to be/have; 

• Knowledge and experience of supporting students within KS3/ 4 secondary curricula.  
• An understanding of interventions/ approaches to engaging with young people who are disenfranchised with education. 
• A patient and caring approach. Resilient and positive in the face of challenging situations. 
• An awareness of the barriers to learning experienced by young people who are at risk of permanent exclusion from school. 
• A sound awareness of safeguarding issues and related reporting, monitoring and recording procedures.  
• Be a visible presence in our alternative provisions ensuring our daily/lessons routines are embedded. 
• Understanding of the value of taking a restorative approach to behaviour management; avoiding punitive measures. 
• A good standard of Maths and English, preferably GCSE’s at grade C/4 and above.  Evidence of relevant ongoing CPD would be advantageous.
