Downside School is situated on an iconic site in rural Somerset where it provides an outstanding boarding and day education for girls and boys aged 11 to 18. It has deep and historic links with Catholic communities worldwide.
Earlier this year, Downside appointed its first lay Chair of Governors, and is now embarking on a new period of change. The successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to develop the vision of Benedictine education. The Head will be an outstanding ambassador for the School, building on a strong platform of academic, co-curricular and pastoral success to ensure that Downside is well-equipped to meet the challenges of a changing educational landscape.
The successful candidate will be a practising Roman Catholic and energetic leader, with first-class strategic skills, strong intellectual abilities and a substantial track record of senior leadership. The Head will inspire a high calibre and committed senior leadership team and engage the entire community in the pursuit of excellence. A strong commitment to Downside’s Benedictine formation and a belief in the continuing value of the School’s links with the English Benedictine Congregation is essential.
