Fairfax Multi Academy Trust has exciting opportunities for Apprentice Premises Assistants to join our existing Estates Team. Due to promotion of staff and newly created roles, we have an opportunity for Apprentice Premises Assistants to join us at Erdington Academy and Fairfax Academy, on a full time, permanent basis. 


Job Title: Apprentice Premises Assistant 

Contract: Permanent 

Salary: National Living Wage

Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday 


Reporting to the Premises Site Lead, the Apprentice Premises Assistant will provide an efficient and effective support to the academy. The post holder will ensure that the security and general appearance of the buildings and surrounding areas are maintained in accordance with the required standards. They will also be required to assist with evening and weekend events, as required.

Facilities Maintenance:

Take pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and well-presented academy environment. Carry out general maintenance tasks, including repairs, painting, plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry, ensuring that the premises are in excellent condition at all times.


Health and Safety:

Play a vital role in ensuring the health and safety of students, staff, and visitors. Conduct regular inspections, identify potential hazards, and promptly address any safety concerns. Maintain accurate records related to health and safety, including risk assessments and maintenance logs.


Security and Access Control:

Implement and monitor security procedures to safeguard the academy's premises. Lock and unlock buildings as required, ensuring that access is granted only to authorized individuals. Respond to security alarms and act swiftly in emergency situations.


Equipment and Supplies:

Manage the inventory of equipment, tools, and supplies required for day-to-day operations. Coordinate orders and deliveries, ensuring that stock levels are maintained appropriately. Carry out regular checks to ensure equipment is in good working order.


Event Support:

Provide support during academy events, such as parent evenings, open days, and performances. Set up and dismantle equipment, arrange furniture, and assist with any other logistical requirements to ensure the smooth running of events.


Grounds Maintenance:

Maintain the outdoor areas of the academy, including gardens, playgrounds, and sports facilities. Carry out gardening tasks, such as mowing lawns, pruning, and maintaining flower beds, to create an attractive and welcoming environment.


Collaboration: Work closely with other members of the academy staff, including administrators, teachers, and support staff. Collaborate effectively to address maintenance issues, respond to requests, and support the overall functioning of the academy.


Qualifications and Experience:

·        Previous experience in a similar Premises Assistant or facilities maintenance role is desirable

·        Basic knowledge of maintenance tasks, including plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry

·        Strong practical skills and the ability to use hand and power tools effectively

·        Knowledge of health and safety regulations and the ability to apply them in a practical setting

·        Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively

·        Good communication and interpersonal skills to interact with staff, students, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner
