Job overview

                                  Apprentice Teaching Assistants

Oaklands is an Outstanding special school serving the London Borough of Hounslow that provides specialist education to students with severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple difficulties and autism. From September 2018, we have a Primary school (New Oaks), Secondary school (High Oaks) and a specialist independent SEN College provision (Great Oaks). We can cater for students aged from 4 to 25 across the Oaklands group. Oaklands is at an exciting point in its development. We recently relocated to our purpose built new school building (close to Osterley Tube Station and other public transport links) that offers state of the art facilities for our students. In time, the primary and secondary schools will be based on two sites with New Oaks Primary moving back to Woodlands Road once refurbishment is completed.

Due to our rapid and continued expansion we are looking to appoint apprentice teaching assistants to work within our class teams across the school and college, supporting the teacher and other classroom staff in delivering education to small groups of students that have severe physical and learning disabilities. We have vacancies in our primary, secondary and college teams. Apprentices will be enrolled on an appropriate course of study and will work towards a Level 2 certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or an Early Years Qualification dependent upon which area of the Oaklands group they work. Upon successful completion of level 2, apprentices will have the option to progress to the level 3 apprenticeship.

If you have a good basic education and are interested in developing your skills and a career working with young people who have learning difficulties, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Applicants must be physically fit and willing to undertake personal care including toileting and feeding. Please refer to the job description and person specification for full details of the role.

We value our employees and offer excellent training and support along with a pension scheme, Employee Assistance Programme and other well-being benefits.

Oaklands is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and anyone applying to work at the school is expected to share this commitment. This position is subject to a satisfactory fully enhanced DBS check and references being received. All positions are subject to the satisfactory completion of a 26 working week probation period.

Details of this post are available on the school’s website: www.oaklands.hounslow.sch.uk and the college website: www.greatoakscollege.com. Visits to the school are welcome, please contact a member of our HR team for an appointment on 0208 560 3569.

If you believe you have what it takes and would like to join our friendly team, please complete and email the application form to HR@oaklands.uk.net . Please indicate clearly in your application if you have a preference regarding working in primary/secondary/college and ensure that you explain clearly how you meet the person specification.
