Job overview

London Design & Engineering University Technical College (LDE UTC) is an oversubscribed technical skills provision that opened in 2016. In January of this year we moved into our brand-new purpose-built state of the art building which enjoys its inspirational dockside location on the Royal Docks. Our specialisms include engineering, civil engineering and computing / digital. As well as running KS4 and KS5 programmes for full time learners, the College is also a lead apprenticeship training provider and delivers to both levy and non-levy employers. LDE UTC has been set up by Thames Water, Costain, Skanska, LEGO, Thames Tideway Tunnel, and our university partner the University East London to provide learners with the opportunity to progress onto University, higher degree apprenticeships or the workplace. Leaners take apprenticeships in civil, digital and mechanical engineering, with additional delivery standards in the pipeline. Learners and apprentices have access to the very best educational facilities and industry standard equipment in the world. We are able to offer this exciting curriculum from the age of 13 upwards by delivering GCSE’s, A Levels, technical level 3 courses and apprenticeships from level 2 to 8 (level 5 and above in partnership with our University partner UEL).

At LDE UTC staff welfare is at the heart of what we do and being a new and dynamic institution we have been able to introduce new initiatives that reduce stress for staff whilst improving the quality of teaching and learning. As part of this, we have reduced the frequency of DATA drops, introduced a staff wellbeing committee (SMILE), introduced fresh fruit Wednesdays and provide free milk, tea and coffee daily. We have also implement a highly flexible working policy, so all staff have the opportunity to request a working pattern which suits them, with an aspiration to achieve a 20% ratio for working from home for all of our staff.

This is your chance to be a member of the LDE UTC team who are revolutionising technical education.

If you are interested in pursuing a career in this vibrant, positive “can do” environment and feel that you have the enthusiasm and drive to make a real difference, then please apply for this truly rewarding opportunity, where together we can create the next generation of confident, independent, work-ready individuals.

London Design and Engineering UTC (University Technical College) is a mixed, 14-19 secondary college with sixth form, situated in Docklands Campus, University Way, in London. The college opened in September 2016 and provides education for students of all abilities from Key Stage 4 and above who would like to pursue a career in design and engineering.

UTCs are government-funded schools that teach 14-19 year old students technical and scientific subjects with a new approach; they are educating the inventors, engineers, scientists and technicians of tomorrow.

The concept of UTCs was created by Lord Baker and Lord Dearing with the aim of bridging the skills gap by linking Industry with education. The Baker Dearing Educational Trust (BDT) was founded to develop and promote the concept of University Technical Colleges.
