The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the school’s full compliance with Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE) requirements, while ensuring that teaching and learning across these subjects is rigorous, engaging and progressive. The role will focus on securing strong foundations in reading, writing, grammar, spelling, speaking and listening, while preparing pupils effectively for the transition to Senior School from Year 9 onwards and the demands of IGCSEs.

A central focus of the position is to develop teaching practice through curriculum leadership, coaching, lesson modelling and support with planning and assessment. Working collaboratively with colleagues and school leadership, the Arabic Coordinator will promote continuous improvement, consistency and excellence across the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic development of the Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qatar History curricula, ensuring clear progression and continuity across Years 4–8.

  • Ensure curriculum provision aligns with MOEHE requirements and Sherborne Qatar’s academic frameworks.

  • Oversee and refine long- and medium-term planning, schemes of work, progression maps, assessment frameworks and end-of-year subject evaluations.

  • Support teachers in planning coherent, challenging and well-sequenced lessons.

  • Monitor teaching and learning through lesson observations, learning walks, book scrutiny and pupil voice, working closely with the Head of Prep.

  • Ensure that school resources and packages, including I Love Arabic, are effectively utilised to support pupil learning.

  • Analyse attainment and progress data to inform improvement planning and targeted support.

  • Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation, inspection preparation and academic quality assurance processes.

Teaching, Learning and Assessment

  • Promote consistently high standards of teaching, learning and assessment in Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qatar History across the Prep Section.

  • Drive high-quality practice in Arabic reading, writing, grammar, spelling, speaking and listening, developing pupils into confident and articulate communicators.

  • Support teachers in delivering a differentiated curriculum that meets the needs of all learners, including EAL/BML and SEND pupils.

  • Work closely with the Inclusion Team to embed appropriate strategies and interventions within teaching and learning.

  • Promote consistency in assessment, marking and feedback in line with MOEHE requirements and Sherborne Qatar’s Assessment Strategy, ensuring accurate tracking of pupil progress.

  • Support curriculum continuity and effective transition between Pre-Prep, Prep and Senior School.

  • Contribute to parent communication, workshops and guidance to support the development of Arabic literacy.

Professional Development and Coaching

  • Support and mentor teachers in strengthening their pedagogy across Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qatar History.

  • Model effective teaching strategies and lessons, providing practical guidance to improve classroom practice.

  • Facilitate coaching, professional dialogue and targeted support to address individual and departmental development needs.

  • Support the induction of new staff by communicating curriculum expectations and teaching standards clearly.

  • Promote reflective practice, collaboration and a culture of continuous professional development.

Monitoring Standards and Continuous Improvement

  • Work with the Head of Prep and Senior Leadership Team to maintain and raise standards across Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qatar History.

  • Support internal reviews, inspections and wider academic quality assurance processes.

  • Use assessment information, classroom monitoring and feedback to identify strengths, areas for development and priorities for improvement.

  • Ensure subject provision contributes to whole-school priorities, including raising academic attainment, developing confident communicators and preparing pupils for Senior School expectations and IGCSEs.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong subject knowledge and expertise in Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qatar History.

  • Experience in curriculum leadership, development and quality assurance.

  • A clear understanding of MOEHE requirements and the importance of maintaining compliance with relevant curriculum expectations.

  • A collaborative approach, exemplary professional conduct and a commitment to reflective practice and continuous professional development.

  • A commitment to upholding the ethos, values and expectations of Sherborne Qatar.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and committed educator to provide effective curriculum leadership, strengthen teaching practice and contribute to improved pupil outcomes across Arabic, Islamic Studies and Qatar History at Sherborne Qatar.
