Job overview

 The role:

Do you have the vision, drive and rigour to lead Ark Franklin Primary Academy at this exciting and important time in its development?

At Ark Franklin Primary Academy, we are a ‘Good’ school (Ofsted, January 2016) that is committed to offering an education rooted in the best that has been thought and spoken. We are a large, three form entry in the heart of Queens Park, North West London. Our aim is to offer a consistently excellent education to our children. We are proud that our curriculum is rich in knowledge, culture, vocabulary and is implemented in a nurturing environment that invests much in social and emotional capital, enabling all to thrive. In addition, we aim to achieve real equity and equality of opportunity for everyone, thus equipping Ark Franklin alumni with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the world confidently and successfully beyond our gates.

We are now looking for an authentic and highly skilled principal to lead Ark Franklin Primary Academy through the next chapter in its journey. The new leader will enter a well-established and high-profile school with much to be proud of and celebrate. Nevertheless, there is always more we need to do and achieve. We want to continue to drive and improve standards further; we want to further engage; care for and inspire staff deeply; and finally, we want to ensure Ark Franklin continues to be recognised and celebrated as the truly fantastic community school it is.

Ideal candidates will:

  • Have a good understanding of what makes an excellent school
  •  Have experience of having worked in, and ideally lead, a successful school previously
  • Have the ambition, drive, authenticity, and resilience of an excellent leader
  • Be a great teacher themselves. As a leader of teaching, we are looking for someone who really knows what great learning looks like in the classroom and how to achieve it
  • Be fully aligned with Ark’s values and six pillars
  • Be excited by, and committed to, supporting practices that will drive great progress across the wider network of Ark schools.

In return, you will work with an experienced and nurturing regional director and you will be given the opportunity to broaden and develop your skills. We are committed to providing staff with high-quality and regular leadership development. Please see below for the 10 benefits and rewards that we commit to for all our principals.

As part of your induction, you will also work with an experienced interim executive principal who will help you to understand the needs of the school and kick off your tenure with real success.

We know that great schools need great senior leaders, which is why we are always keen to hear from people who share our belief that an excellent education is central to transforming lives.

About Ark Franklin Primary Academy

Ark Franklin Primary Academy is a 3-form entry primary school committed to serving our diverse population here in Kensal Rise. Ark Franklin is proudly part of the Ark network of schools and prides itself on having the highest possible expectations for every single child.

There has been a school on the site of Ark Franklin Primary Academy since 1898. The school reopened as an academy in September 2013 and is named after British scientist Rosalind Franklin. Born locally in 1920, she overcame adversity to play a key role in the discovery of the double helix structure of DNA. Our DNA walkways running adjacent to the key stage one playground leading to our garden, and in our front entrance, commemorate her outstanding achievement.

At Franklin, we believe strongly in a warm and positive climate for learning, established through high quality relationships between adults and children – we ensure that we know every child and what makes them unique. Pupils at Ark Franklin receive a high quality education thanks to our pursuit of excellence, high expectations and an “always learning” attitude among all staff, who prioritise their professional development so that we can give our best to the children.

Our curriculum is engaging, challenging and fun, with reading at its heart. We are proud of the value we place on every single curriculum subject and offer specialist teaching in Art, Spanish, PE and Music to all children, every week. Our teaching encourages children to interact, speak and share – we learn best when we learn from each other.

Mission

The mission for our school is clear and shared by all: To provide every pupil – regardless of the barriers they face - with a complete education of the very highest standard that ensures that they can have the opportunity to go on to university or pursue the career of their choice, as well as live fulfilling and happy lives.

At Ark Franklin, we will achieve our mission together, by working towards our common vision for the school. We want our school to be:

  • Inclusive, nurturing and supportive - where barriers to success are overcome
  • Ambitious and aspirational, with the very highest expectations of all children
  • Rigorous - characterised by high expectations of each other
  • Lively with the buzz of activity, calm in the classes and corridors
  • Joyful, safe and happy – for children, adults, families and the community as a whole

Working at Ark Franklin

We recognise that to achieve great things, we need great people. That’s why we will help you to be the very best that you can be, throughout your entire career. We offer twice the standard number of training days – including our network-wide Hub Days, where peers join together to learn and share best practice. There are also extensive opportunities for bespoke training and mentoring programmes.

If you're ambitious, Ark has many programmes designed to support your career from early career teacher through to middle leader and beyond, to aspiring Head. The Ark network values career development and always has training or career opportunities for talented individuals.
