Job overview

Reference: FVC00144

The Department of Creative Industries is based at the new Stirling campus of Forth Valley College, with programmes also offered in both our Falkirk and Alloa campuses. You will be based in Stirling but will, on occasion, have to travel to the other two campuses. The department offers a range of programmes, from introductory and access level to degree, in the broad specialisms of Art & Design, Media and Communication, and Sound Production.

Our Stirling facilities include a purpose build printmaking studio with two screen printing beds, a motor driven etching press, a lithography press and two relief printing presses. There are also facilities for photo digital imaging, and a wide variety of other art and design facilities including a 3D workshop and general studios.

You will be responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all aspects of the printmaking studio, management and stock control of materials and equipment, and will be timetabled to support lecturers and learners during classes. It is also vitally important that you work closely with our existing technician to support the delivery of general art and design classes.

It is intended to further develop the community and commercial use of the printmaking studio out with normal college hours and therefore there may be opportunities to extend the role and remit of the printmaking technician, through future developments, with evening work likely.

You should have recent experience of working in specialist art and design/printmaking facilities. You should also have a sound working knowledge of etching, screen printing, lithography and relief printing methods, and be fully proficient in at least two of these. Knowledge of digital printing techniques would be beneficial. You should hold, at minimum, an HND qualification in a related subject and will be expected to bring a portfolio of recent work, including examples of printmaking, to interview.
