Job overview
Art and Photography Teacher
Main Scale (Outer London)
A rare opportunity has arisen for a creative and innovative teacher of Art. Our Outstanding department is constantly seeking to enrich students experiences and has impressive exam success, far exceeding National averages. We teach contemporary Fine Art practice, with a commitment to giving students a full, rewarding and vigorous training in preparation for Art College and beyond. Last year our Fine Art students achieved ALPS 1 at A Level, ranking them in the top results in the country. Our Art students are consistently offered places to study at Central St Martins, UAL and UCA.
The Art Department at Coopers School is part of the Art, Design and Technology (ADT) faculty. The Art Department is a dedicated team of three specialist full time practitioners and an Artist in Residence. We currently teach Art at all Key Stages, and Photography and Textiles at Key Stage 5. Art is taught in four purpose built classrooms housed in the Creative Arts Block which also includes a darkroom and a gallery (The Coop) as well as a dedicated Art MAC suite.
The ability to teach Fine Art is required, but the capacity to also teach across Fine Art disciplines including drawing, printing, photography, sculpture and textiles is desirable. The continuing professional development of all staff at Coopers is a priority, and the opportunities given for staff to further their careers are clearly evident in Art. The department is well established in training teachers through the GTP, PGCE and Collegiate SCITT programmes and many of these teachers have gone on to senior positions both within the Faculty and across the school.
This position is initially to cover a maternity leave for one year, but there is an opportunity for this to become permanent in 2020, with potential leadership opportunities thereafter.
