Job overview

The visual arts are highly regarded and enjoy a high status within the Kellett community. The subject is well funded and receives excellent resourcing. Students are enthusiastic and look forward to their weekly specialist lessons, in addition to class-based activities. Kellett prides itself on its learning environment and celebrating students’ achievements; high quality visual displays are an essential aspect of this.

Specialist art is taught from Year 1 to Year 6. Lessons take place in a large, light and recently refurbished specialist art room providing an IWB, ample storage and display space. Further storage for paper and general supplies is situated throughout the school.

The art curriculum is based on the National Curriculum schemes of work. However, given specialist provision there is a clear expectation that teaching and learning exceeds the NC framework. A generous budget allows materials and supplies to be sourced locally and overseas.

In recent years Kellett has established a tradition of a bi-annual ‘Artist in Residence’.  In addition to the visual arts, the performing arts enjoy equal status, the round of annual productions, concerts, assemblies and performances are enhanced by the contribution of children’s art. The Specialist Art teacher is responsible for the scenery of major productions, supported by colleagues and parents.

The successful applicant will hold a specialist art and teaching qualification and will be comfortable working with a range of media. They will be a skilled, enthusiastic and motivated teacher with a passion for art, display high levels of personal achievement; they will have a desire to share the love of their subject with our delightful, motivated students unlocking the potential within each of them. They will seek to build upon Kellett School’s excellent reputation and will be excited upon drawing inspiration from our location in China and neighbouring Asia

In addition they will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be both willing and able to lead and work within a team and to contribute to the wider life of the school and our community.
