Job overview

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic Teacher of Art to join our outstanding school as we grow into our fifth year. The school offers excellent opportunities for professional development and you will be joining an incredibly talented and supportive teaching team.

William Perkin Church of England High School opened in September 2013 with its first intake of Year 7 students and now has four year groups (7, 8, 9 and 10) totalling around 775 students. We have had an incredibly positive journey so far and are rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (June 2015) and SIAMS (October 2016).

The Art Department is looking for a candidate who is dynamic and well-qualified. You will be a passionate Teacher of Art and a committed team player who is excited by the opportunity to be a valued member of staff at a new and ambitious school. Excellent communications skills are essential. As you will be joining a school with a real sense of community, you should also be able and willing to contribute to the wider offer of extra-curricular activities that are available to our students. You should have the resolve to make a real difference to the lives of our students.

Art is currently taught primarily in the afternoon and therefore if you wish to apply, please be prepared to take on either some extra cover lessons and/or teach some lessons in a different subject area. Alternatively, we are also able to appoint part time teachers who would like a 0.6 timetable. We are looking to appoint for a September start, but there is also potential to start after Easter.

A background in Textiles, Ceramics or Graphics would be an advantage.

The new post-holder(s) will be joining us at a time of growth. The organisation therefore offers good promotion prospects for motivated and energetic teachers who support the ethos of our schools. For more information please see the details below or visit the Trust website or William Perkin website. You are also welcome to visit us and see for yourself what an outstanding school William Perkin is. To arrange a visit, please email the Head of Art, Hannah Cooper, at hcooper@williamperkin.org.uk

  • Ability to teach Art from KS3 to A- Level
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the National Curriculum
  • An understanding of recent curriculum/learning developments
  • An understanding of the strategies required to motivate and enthuse all students across the ability range as part of a whole school approach to raising achievement
  • An understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • Energy and enthusiasm

The context - The Twyford Trust

The Twyford Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. The Twyford Trust aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting, and embraces the Twyford School motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), the Trust is the overarching organisation which provides support for both Trust schools.
