The German International School Sydney (GISS) is currently seeking an Art Teacher for Junior Secondary (GISS curriculum, a combination of NSW and German curriculum) and Senior Secondary School (IB Diploma Programme).

The GISS is a small international school offering a bilingual education programme (German and English) from Preschool to the bilingual IB-Diploma. It is registered by the NSW Education Standards Authority and accredited by the Federal Republic of Germany as a German School Abroad. 

The school is a highly reputable co-educational school that has a rich history of quality education and aims to provide an enjoyable workplace for its staff. GISS has been awarded “Excellent German School Abroad” in September 2017.

The language of instruction for Art in Junior Secondary is German, while the language of instruction for Visual Art in Yr11 & 12 is English. We are ideally looking for a bilingual German/English teacher of Art but will consider splitting this position to cater for language abilities. Please indicate what subjects you are able to teach and at which year levels in your application letter. Prior experience in teaching IB Visual Art is desirable but not mandatory.

Facilities

Located on a 16,000 square metre property, the educational facility consists of eight building following the natural slope and landscape of the property. The school has a library, sports hall, multifunction room, a mobile IT lab, and science, art and music rooms. The school uses the nearby Terrey Hills Swim School for part of its physical education program.

Curriculum

The focus of our curriculum – which combines the New South Wales Syllabus and the one of the German State Thüringen while following the NSW school calendar year – are languages, math and the sciences. Students can be enrolled without prior knowledge of either the German or English language. Our content and language integrated learning methods allows all students to be taught according to their language skill set. Our immersion approach also leads to a high bilingual proficiency in both languages.

In Years 11 and 12 we offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) which is recognised worldwide as the best university preparation programme currently available to students completing post-secondary education. I am proud to say that in recent years our IB students continuously achieved IB scores above world average.

Furthermore, our highly qualified and dedicated team of teachers guide and support every student to develop their full academic potential and to become competent, responsible and independent adults.
