Loretto School is one of Britain’s leading independent boarding and day schools located on the outskirts of Edinburgh and we have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Art specialist to join our highly successful Art Department to provide maternity cover for the start of the next academic year.

We would be delighted to hear from you if you are an outstanding teacher who is able to deliver high quality teaching in one or more art specialism as well as making a wider contribution to the school’s co-curricular programme.

You will be part of a supportive and committed Art department. We aim to offer pupils an exciting curriculum and a broad range of co-curricular opportunities within a safe, secure and encouraging environment. Our department is extremely popular with a highly creative and engaged body of pupils who are passionate about art and design We have a high uptake at GCSE and offer both Art and History of Art at A-level. 

We welcome applications from candidates who can offer experiences in any area of Art and Design. 

To be considered for the role, you will need to be GTCS registered, or be able to become registered. This post would also be suitable for an NQT. 

You will need to be: 

  • A subject specialist with an ability to teach to GCSE and A-Level standard;
  • Passionate about the subject with the skills to enthuse our highly ambitious pupils;
  • A confident and highly effective classroom teacher, sensitive to pupils’ needs and with high expectations of what can be achieved; and 
  • A team player who is capable of working closely with the rest of the department.


However, the role is more than direct teaching. Here at Loretto, we strive to know and nurture all of our pupils helping them to develop into knowledgeable, capable and confident young adults. All staff are expected to contribute fully to the School’s extensive academic, pastoral, and co-curricular programmes. The academic, pastoral, and co-curricular timetable includes teaching on Saturday mornings along with evening duties.

Salary will be determined by experience and aptitude for the role. This is a part time position working between 18 and 22 lessons per week.
