Overview

Abbey College Cambridge is one of the best sixth form colleges for international students in the UK. We specialise in helping students from across the world achieve the personal, social and academic growth needed to succeed at the UK’s best universities.

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Art Technician to support the Art Department at Abbey College Cambridge in order to facilitate excellent teaching and the ‘joy of learning’. 

The Art Department at Abbey College Cambridge teaches Fine Art at GCSE and A Level. They are popular courses, which enable our students to grow both intellectually and emotionally. We have a well -stocked art studio, which allows our students to develop skills in many areas including Drawing and Painting, Mixed Media, Sculpture, Ceramics, Printmaking and Photography in order to support their artists. Trips to exhibitions in England and Europe are organised in order for them to see art ‘first hand’ and specialist workshops and life -drawing classes are also offered. 

Your duties and responsibilities will include the following:

• Maintenance, storage and preparation of resources for the successful delivery of lessons, workshops, tutorials and demonstrations undertaken by the Art Department

• Sourcing, costing and ordering of equipment, publications and materials to maintain stock levels. 

• To ensure and promote the maintenance of a healthy and safe working environment through contributing to the assessment and monitoring of both health and safety procedures and information and information resources.

• Assist in lessons as required during practical sessions and providing support of making ambitious studio pieces (GCSE & A-Level). 

• Support for the End of Year Exhibition by GCSE and A Level candidates and year-round whole school displays of artwork and house music events.

• Assist in the organisation and planning (including internal administration) of trips, courses and conferences for pupils and staff.

Qualifications and Experience

You will hold A Levels or equivalent qualifications including in Art. You will have experience of working with a range of Art equipment and resources and a basic knowledge of Health and Safety regulations. You will have excellent verbal and written English and an enthusiasm for working with students.

Checks and Training

• Enhanced DBS checks to ascertain successful candidates suitability to work with children will be carried out. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and therefore all convictions, cautions and bindovers, including those regarded as ‘spent’ must be declared.

• Online searches will be carried out on candidates for any unsuitable content by or about candidates.

• Two written & verbal references from previous employers and a personal reference will be sought. Referees will be asked about candidates suitability to work with children and whether they know of any disciplinary offences relating to children or young persons and whether candidates have been the subject of any child protection allegations or concerns and if so the outcome of any enquiry or disciplinary procedure.

• Candidates full employment history will be checked, any significant gaps will require explanation and proof of any relevant qualifications will need to be provided.

• Successful candidates will be required to complete Child Protection Training via e-learning prior to commencing employment.

• Pre-employment health screening will also be carried out.
