c£14,820 per annum for 0.5381 fte

25 hours pw on Monday-Friday mornings during term-time (36 weeks pa)

Royal Russell is an HMC/IAPS co-educational school with over 1000 pupils between the ages of 3 and 18, situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon on the doorstep of London. We have over 150 boarding students in the Senior School, and are proud of our day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England.  Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. We aim to build on this alongside improving academic success to continue to be the family school of choice in South London. In March 2016 the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas and in October 2018 we successfully passed a full ISI compliance inspection.

Are you a qualified, talented and experienced Art Technician able to support our enthusiastic and creative teaching teams to deliver effective teaching and learning for Art and Design GCSE and A Level students? Art and Design is a very popular subject with excellent exam results at GCSE and A Level and provides our students with many opportunities to develop their skills both inside and outside of the classroom. You will assist students to produce their art portfolios, supervise their use of the Art Rooms and facilities during study periods, support them in class with their final projects and, if possible assist in supervision of Art Clubs to complement their studies.

You should have previous experience in Art and Design ideally with experience of supporting young people to learn and develop in an educational setting, with some knowledge of the secondary curriculum in Art and Design. You must be capable of using your initiative, as well as working collaboratively and supportively with teaching staff to set up, support and resource lessons in the Art and Photography department. It would be helpful if you have an awareness of relevant Health and Safety issues and are able to demonstrate effective use of art materials. Excellent inter-personal skills are essential as you will be working closely with staff and students.

You should have high levels of computer literacy, good organisational skills and be equally happy working unsupervised as well as part of a team to a high standard. This is a part-time term-time position working 5 mornings a week (25 hours pw) Monday-Friday during term-time. Your working hours would normally be 8.15-1.15pm but some flexibility around start and finish times would be required on occasion to meet the departments’ needs. There is the possibility of varying the hours/days through flexible working.

This is an exciting opportunity that offers excellent benefits including a competitive salary, working with a driven and dedicated team of staff, immediate non-contributory pension, free life cover, free car parking, free meals, working in our beautiful green parkland estate with easy access to transport links, a discount on School fees, and the use of our sporting and gym facilities, all combined with the opportunity to be part of the vibrant community of the historic Royal Russell School.

If you are interested in joining us, please visit http://www.royalrussell.co.uk/Vacancies where you will find further information on this position and an application form.  All completed applications should be submitted to hr@royalrussell.co.uk by 12 noon on Monday 9 September 2019. Applications will be considered on receipt and interviews will be held later that week. If you have not heard from us by 13 September 2019, you should presume that you have not been successful on this occasion.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (including a check against the Children’s Barred List) and other pre-employment screening including references and medical fitness.
