Job overview

Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls, part of the PolyMAT multi academy trust, is an all-inclusive girls’ school, the latest addition to the Trust and sister school to Woolwich Polytechnic School for Boys. The two schools work in close collaboration and both adhere to the Trust’s motto of “stronger together.” All staff in the Trust have an innate passion and drive to empower and educate our students, to help them become the leaders of tomorrow.

The Trust recognises the importance that each of its schools also has a strong individual identity and this why Woolwich Poly Girls has its own values of: Leadership, Excellence and Resilience.

Woolwich Poly Girls is a school that prides itself on staff wellbeing, innovation and research. A recent wellbeing survey showed that a resounding 98% of staff felt that WPSfGs has a supportive culture and ethos in which they flourish.

Our students strive for excellence and deepen their resilience and stoical behaviours at every step. They are driven by their teachers’ high expectations and their exceptional skills. Our thorough behaviour systems are consistently well-managed so that you no longer have to worry about low-level disruption. The relationships you can build with students, and the learning you can foster in your classroom, are remarkable.

We teach a mastery curriculum, covering fewer topics each year, and do so in real depth. Research shows that lacking vital literacy skills holds a person back at every stage of their life. That is why our dedicated staff promote a strong culture of reading and provide children with opportunities and the key to enjoying reading, as ultimately students who read for pleasure are proven to achieve greater success. This is why all our lessons start with a read now task and students are studying academically demanding texts in all subjects.

We seek a professional who is driven by self-improvement and has an intellectual approach to their own pedagogy. We want someone who is passionate about their subject, welcoming and with a lot of personality.  But most of all, we want someone who loves to see students succeed.

We are looking for a creative, passionate, innovative and enthusiastic Technician of Art & Design to join our growing department. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative, friendly and supportive team of Art specialists.  The Art Department believes that each of our girls should leave school with a creative spark, the ability to contribute to the arts community, the belief that they can achieve any artistic endeavour with hard work and practice, and the knowledge and passion which inspires them to discuss artworks, visit galleries and continue their interest in art throughout their lives. Most importantly, our girls will develop the ability to express themselves in a creative, imaginative and confident way. The post holder will assist the Head of Art, Art team and students by organising, delivering and developing technical services.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about practical work and highly skilled in their understanding of materials, equipment and processes. They will also be enthusiastic about working with young people by helping support the aims of the department in encouraging young women to access Art education and careers. The post holder will be asked to supervise extra-curricular clubs or workshops as well as contribute to the pastoral life of the school.

Experience of working in a school environment would be beneficial as responsibilities will include preparation and support of practical lessons for Key Stage 3, and eventually 4 & 5.

We are looking for a candidate who has:

• A genuine passion for Art

• The ability to skilfully use a range of tools, equipment and machinery

• Previous experience of maintaining and adjusting a range of machinery and recording of checks

• The ability to support practical workshop sessions with supervision, practical instruction and demonstrations.

• The drive and enthusiasm to engage and inspire pupils.

• The dedication to improve the life chances of young people throughout the school.

• The ability and willingness to draw upon the latest artistic resources, knowledge and news including a confident understanding of digital technology

• An enthusiasm and willingness to collaborate and participate in building and refining an outstanding curriculum

• A commitment to implement and run various extra-curricular opportunities for students such as clubs and trips.

As a member of staff at Woolwich Polytechnic School for Girls we can offer you:

· Opportunities for career progression

· Excellent professional development

· A contributory pension scheme

· Opportunities to collaborate with outstanding and dynamic teaching professionals

· Access to various discounts for a small monthly fee

· An employee assistance programme

· Season ticket loans

· Finders fees for personal introductions of staff that we employ

· Excellent catering facilities

· Secure on-site parking

PolyMAT is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all trustees, staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to an Enhanced Criminal Record Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service, along with other relevant employment checks, including overseas criminal background checks, where applicable. All new trustees, employees and volunteers will be required to undertake safeguarding training on induction, which will be regularly updated in line with statutory guidance.

The school is also committed to promoting equality, challenging discrimination and developing community cohesion. We welcome applications from all sections of the community.

Suitable candidates will be interviewed promptly upon receipt of application. The closing date will be brought forward in the event that the post is filled.
