Art Technician (Part-Time)

Support the next generation of leaders at Harris Academy Wimbledon.

We are looking for a hardworking, ambitious and dynamic part time Art Technician to join Harris Academy Wimbledon, working 15 hours per week.

Your role will be to provide technical support to the relevant departments of the academy in order to support the teaching of Art and Photography. Your main responsibilities will include:

• Assisting and advising teaching staff on the preparation and layout in classrooms for practical exercises, running trials, demonstrations and helping students with learning activities
• Ensuring equipment and materials prepared for lessons are to the specification of the teacher requisitions
• In conjunction with teachers, advising students on the safe and proper use of tools and equipment and on the correct and safe way to carry out learning activities
• Supporting students in preparing materials for both 3D and 2D projects
• Assisting in practical lessons and after hours activities when requested
• Assisting in the safety, repair and general maintenance of all resources, equipment and tools where within your capabilities
• Maintaining an understanding of subject syllabus and schemes of work in order to prepare for practical lessons adequately.
• Assisting with stock keeping
• Undertaking safety checks as required and complying with and implementing Health and Safety requirements
• Ensuring that all equipment and materials are stored safely, securely and maintained in good condition
• Disposing of used hazardous waste safely

What we are looking for

We are looking for a strong communicator with proven skills in engaging with, inspiring and motivating, not just the school community but the wider community. The successful candidate will:

• Be educated to A Level or equivalent
• Have knowledge of Health and Safety regulations
• Have experience working with a range of Art equipment and resources, and experience or solid understanding of working as a technician in a school or educational establishment
• Have the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
• Have excellent organisational and planning skills
• Be a creative thinker and problem solver
• Have the ability to encourage and inspire young people to achieve
• Have the ability to work as part of a team; working effectively with people across a wide range of levels and responsibilities.
• Have good ICT skills, including a working knowledge of MS packages
• Have the ability to work using own initiative, exercising good judgement where unsupervised.
• Be flexible in their approach to work
• Have the ability to carry out routine maintenance of equipment
