It stands in nearly 100 acres of grounds, surrounded by farmland, near the western edge of Exmoor. Its rural location is outstandingly beautiful. The school is fully co-educational and has grown considerably in recent years. In total, there are just under 650 boys and girls aged 3 to 18 years, with 140 in the Sixth Form. There are also over 140 boarders and, following the substantial investment, there has been an increased demand in this area. The school has its own co-located Preparatory School and Nursery, with pupils aged 3 to 11.

West Buckland School is keen to promote the Creative Arts and sponsor a young artist in their work.
The Artist in Residence position is a one-year fixed-term appointment from 31st August 2022 to 8th July 2023. The Artist in Residence will be timetabled to assist the department during term time as needed; however, the studio space and a small budget are designated for the provision of resources for your personal use and artistic development of your portfolio. This vacancy provides an excellent opportunity for an individual looking for the provision of a studio and an opportunity to engage students in your art specialisation and inspire them to follow an artistic career path if desired.
Alongside this, the successful candidate will assist the Head of Art in the day-to-day delivery of Art to students and the Head of Boarding in the co-ordination of an extra-curricular programme of Art for the boarding community. The ability to work with pupils, parents and teachers is paramount, and the successful candidate will possess good inter-personal, communication and IT skills.
The Artist in Residence will receive a salary of £11,200 for the contracted period and provided with free food, accommodation and use of the school’s facilities.
