Job overview

We are very much looking forward to appointing a dynamic and inspirational professional, who has the ability to lead others effectively and contribute significantly at a middle leadership level to the future of our successful ASD unit within school.

This is a really exciting opportunity. The successful appointee will be someone who will take the provision, established 4 years ago, to the next level of its development. The post may suit someone who has experience in this area, in terms of ASD provision, or else someone who is keen to change direction in their career. Applications will be considered from both experienced staff in this field and teachers with less experience who have a passion for this area. Full training will be provided.

Brentford School for Girls has many strengths and our students make outstanding progress given their very mixed starting points. Our ongoing challenge is to ensure that our students continue to thrive academically and socially given the changing educational landscape and the challenges that lie ahead with a new curriculum.

Excellent examination results, sustained over the last 5 years are only part of what we are proud of. The broad curriculum and the extra-curricular provision provide a learning experience that produces confident, ambitious and hardworking young women, equipped to take on the challenges of the future ‘whatever that may be.’ In February 2016 we were identified in the DFE Top 100 schools for the progress our students make and our recent Ofsted report (February 2016) also identified our numerous strengths including, the strong leadership of the school, the very good behaviour of students, the individual support students receive and the family feel of the school.

This post has become available due to the current lead moving onto another role following setting up this unit. The ASD unit at Brentford is funded by the local authority and is a girls’ only provision, sadly a real ‘rarity’ in this field. The provision is currently small (8 students). The unit has its own building and facilities and students do a combination of withdrawal/group/ and one to one sessions as well as spending a significant time in the mainstream. There are currently 6 members of staff funded by the unit.

If you would like to visit the unit please contact: Ms Fiona Duffy on 020 8847 4281 ext.2246

Values and vision

The Brentford School for Girls has a commitment to academic excellence and personal well-being. Success lies in the close and safe community that flourishes at the secondary school, and in the excellent relationships that exist between staff and students.

GCSE examination results consistently place the school as one of the highest achieving in both Hounslow and nationwide. A-level students achieve exceptionally well and many students in the sixth form are accepted into the best universities in the country, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Brentford girls are encouraged to be ambitious, think big and have high expectations of themselves. The school vision is to develop students into confident, ambitious, resilient young women.

Ofsted report

“The school is a small, friendly and culturally diverse community. Every girl is known well; as one pupil said, ‘We are like a family.’ The school’s ethos that ‘every child counts’ permeates throughout the life of the school. Staff work hard to ensure that individual pupils make good academic progress, and that they are safe and well cared for.”
