Leeds East Academy is an over-subscribed 11-16 academy that has recently achieved the title of UK Parliament School of the Year. We received a ‘good’ judgement in our 2019 Ofsted inspection and every member of our community is determined to convert this to outstanding and beyond at our next inspection.

Role:

Leeds East Academy has a highly aspirational vision of ‘Everyone Exceptional’ and this role is integral to securing this vision for the academy. The role will require you to inspire students with a love of the subject through the implementation and design of a highly ambitious geography curriculum offered across Key Stage 3 and 4 pupils, underpinned by a clear curriculum intent, which secures exceptional attainment for students. The Teaching and Learning Responsibility (TLR) is for curriculum development and assessment and to support the curriculum leader of this area with the leadership and line management of this team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Ensure good and better progress for all students within groups taught through the planning and preparation of high quality lessons which engage, motivate and support learners and adhere to the academy teaching and learning strategy.

· Strive to deliver a consistently excellent standard of teaching.

· Leadership responsibilities to be developed in response to the candidate’s strengths allowing an opportunity for career progression when appropriate.

· Take responsibility within own teaching areas and in the execution of general duties for the creation of a positive climate for learning which results in positive, respectful attitudes from students.

· Consistently apply the Academy Behaviour Policy to support all colleagues in establishing high standards of behaviour from students, and in order that students have parity of treatment and expectations in all areas of the academy.

· To assess, record and report on the development, progress, and attainment of students within the subject team and academy schedule.

· In consultation with the Curriculum Leader for Ethics and Humanities, contribute to the planning, design and production of good quality teaching materials and resources, appropriate to age and ability, in accordance with the Department Development and Improvement Plan.

· Be a form tutor for a specified group of students, establishing the rapport necessary to support their social, emotional and geography education and development.

· Within the subject team, make a strong contribution to agreed PSHCE areas as designated to the subject area through ‘immersion’ curriculum experiences.

· Contribute to the wider life of the academy by participating in the provision of extension, enrichment, and enhancement activities through the planned programme.

· Attend meetings, including parents’ consultation sessions, and fulfil duties on rotas as required by the Principal.

· Implement all academy policies with regard to registration, student absence, student uniform, use of planners and other routines detailed in the staff handbook.

Additional Responsibilities:

• In line with the national curriculum, employ rigorous assessment techniques to ensure innovative and strategic planning and delivery across the department.

• Research, understand and develop the geography curriculum with a focus on the GCSE 9-1 grades in line with the Education Inspection Framework (EIF).

• Build a KS3 geography curriculum that promotes a love for learning, leading to students selecting the option at KS4.

• Assist the Curriculum Lead for Ethics and Humanities in creating clear department assessment plans which contribute positively to the Academy Development and Improvement Plan (ADIP).

• Contribute to the development of whole school strategic planning and policies through attendance at middle leadership meetings.

• Assist the Curriculum Lead for Ethics and Humanities in overseeing and evaluating the department budget and resources.

• Line manage the geography team.
