The Institute is a place where students, teachers, governors, researchers, support staff and everyone interested in education can come together in a community of research and practice.
About the role
The appointee will work closely with the Dean and others to develop, prioritise and pursue the strategic aims of the Institute for Education. The role will be responsible for developing and implementing the strategic development and deployment of staff, budgets and other resources, monitoring and advising the Dean and Institute Board on the availability and appropriateness of devolved resources to support the Institute’s academic purpose. There will be a requirement to think imaginatively, about how to use resources in the best way to support the aims of the Institute including enhance student recruitment, whilst supporting the strategic development of research, the taught portfolio, and promoting internationalisation.
About you (requirements)
With strong academic qualifications and a track record of successful leadership, candidates will be able to demonstrate recent experience of contributing to organisational performance and/or change. An effective leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the appointee will have experience of managing budgets to support academic purposes, familiarity with key data sets and sources to enable and inform decision making, good understanding of policy context and sector practice, including an ability to embrace equality of opportunity for all staff, and the demonstrable ability to combine strategic thinking with operational management. S/he will also be a highly effective networker, keen to develop regional and international networks and possess relevant industry and/or professional body links. An established or increasing reputation in research as evidenced by publications is required.
