Job overview

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

 

1.    Develop, revise, modify and support the implementation of suitable Health, Safety and Environmental practices.

 

2.    Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a working knowledge of all The Health and Safety Executive (HSE)  legislation and any developments by attending Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)  seminars and reading professional journals.

 

3.    Accurate and timely reporting of KPI data as required and statutory obligations.

 

4.    Guide and assist where required to ensure the consistent and effective implementation and continual development of working practices that are safe and comply with legislation. 

 

5.    Identify, develop and implement appropriate improvements in working practices and systems through proactive and reactive reviews.

 

6.    Advise on a range of specialist areas e.g. purchase of new equipment, fire regulations, hazardous substances, personal protective equipment, noise and occupational diseases. 

 

7.    Monitor Health, Safety & Environmental performance through regular site inspections and audits which take account of all relevant hazards, providing appropriate reports and improvement plans.

 

8.    Facilitate internal and external audits providing reports and improvement plans.

 

9.    Develop and implement effective communication strategies and delivery methods for information and instruction to all employees within the College.

 

10. Manage and motivate employees communicating and demonstrating best practice with health, safety and environmental issues including attendance at meetings where required.

 

11. Promote a positive health and safety culture.

 

12. Support the Facility Management in the investigation and reporting of accident, incidents and near misses as required, ensuring any learning points are communicated.

 

13. Ensure all lost time accidents are fully investigated and reported where necessary to the Health and Safety Executive and relevant funding agencies with relevant documentation produced and retained for future use.

 

14. Attend Local Health and Safety Meetings and support the Estates Support Managers and Building Managers.

 

15. Provide Health, Safety & Environmental performance reviews, epidemiological accident analysis to the Health and Safety Strategic members and Corporation Reports as required.

 

16. Support the Director of Estates to establish and maintain links as appropriate with relevant Health, Safety and Environmental agencies including reporting arrangements and liaison.
