As Assistant Director of Music, you will be responsible for academic matters and curriculum development while taking an active lead in non-academic matters. Working alongside and supporting the Director of Music, you will inspire staff and pupils within the Music department, ensuring high-quality pedagogy at all levels, effective use of resources, and the highest standards of learning, achievement, and support for all students.

Our Music department prides itself on being inclusive as well as high-performing. We are also open-minded and celebrate all types of music, running an incredible array of events throughout the year from National Battle of the Bands to Qatar School Choir of the Year - a large choral event for children aged 5 to 18. We also attend Young Musician of the Gulf and COBIS Music competitions annually. This is in addition to a full complement of internal concerts, productions, and recitals.

All students are issued an iPad upon entry, and as a Google School, all staff and students use Google Classroom.

About you

To be successful, you will be highly motivated with the very highest standards and expectations, understand the holistic rewards of the subject, and have a genuine passion for music in all aspects of the role.

Forward-thinking with the ability to lead with initiative to drive forward opportunity and excellence, you will demonstrate excellent subject knowledge, a proven track record of achieving success, and a willingness to work collaboratively.

Specialist knowledge in a range of pedagogies and principles of instruction is essential, as is the ability to deliver GCSE and A Level music and be able to teach Primary Music when required.

A willingness to lead music initiatives and activities with rigour through excellent organisation skills, communication, time management and planning is essential. An ability to direct and contribute to a vast array of co-curricular musical ensembles on a weekly basis is required, and performance-level proficiency in at least one instrument, and strong keyboard skills as an accompanist is essential. Experience in technology would also enable a smooth start in our digitally advanced learning environment.

Additionally, you will assist with delivering our diverse co-curricular provision, schedule of concerts, productions, whole school events, foster links with local Qatari and other music organisations, and encourage participation in music competitions at all levels. You should be collegiate and flexible in your approach to support and carry out duties and tasks across the whole-school Music Department, and confident in shaping and delivering the vision of the department. There is genuine scope to personalise this role for the best candidate.
