Rugby Free Secondary School opened in 2016 and has just moved into a brand-new purpose-built facility. The road hasn’t been smooth, but it is a school committed to providing success for all of its students and providing a workplace that supports its staff to ensure they are able to work to the best of their ability for our students every day. You won’t find teachers and staff anywhere else who are as committed to a school’s purpose and supporting its success.

We are currently graded as inadequate by Ofsted (May 2019) but on our first monitoring visit (December 2019) and then again in February 2021, it was recognised just how much the school has improved in such a short space of time. Our aim is to be at least ‘good’ by December 2021.

Teaching and Learning and Assessment  

  • To support the Director of Learning to create opportunities to continue to improve subject pedagogy within the faculty through moderation, training, collaborative planning and the use of excellent teaching resources 
  • To monitor the quality of Teaching and Learning in the faculty, conducting learning walks, work scrutiny and lesson observations when required  
  • To develop and quality assure the Schemes of Learning, resources and assessments in the faculty and ensure they successfully develop knowledge, understanding and skills at all levels of ability 
  • To ensure an engaging curriculum is developed to inspire, support and challenge all students at KS5

Curriculum Development  

  • To support the Director of Learning effectively manage and deploy teaching/support staff, financial and physical resources within the Science curriculum 
  • To lead on the development and running of KS5 within Science, reporting to the Director of Learning, creating intervention strategies to improve achievement in both the short and long term
  • To support the Director of Learning in ensuring that the qualifications and specifications in the faculty reflect the needs of students and the aims and objectives of the school  
  • To support the Director of Learning in producing an annual curriculum overview for the faculty outlining assessment opportunities and how they will be used to raise achievement 
  • To support the Director of Learning to plan a range of enrichment opportunities across the faculty and measure the impact on student's personal development and achievement

Outcomes for students 

  • In support the Director of Learning in consultation with the Senior Leadership Team manage, analyse and evaluate all relevant available data in order to set targets for individual students and for the various subject teams  
  • To support the Director of Learning to raise standards of student attainment and achievement within the whole curriculum area and to monitor and support student progress  
  • To support the Director of Learning ensuring that effective intervention is put in place for students who are underachieving 

Leadership and Management 

  • To work alongside Subject Leaders within the Science department to ensure excellent KS5 Science provision 
  • To support the Director of Learning 
  • To support the Director of Learning in the development of teachers and support staff in Science through the appraisal process and CPD opportunities 
  • To support the Director of Learning in ensuring that the faculty quality assurance procedures meet the requirements of Self Evaluation and the School Improvement Plan 
  • To support the Director of Learning in ensuring that all relevant policies are adhered to within the faculty such as Marking and Feedback, Assessment and Behaviour  
  • To support the Director of Learning in the development of trainee’s/NQT in the faculty  
  • To participate in and lead CPD  
  • To support the Director of Learning work collaboratively with other Senior Middle Leaders to further drive improvement  
  • To celebrate success within the faculty and create opportunities for showcasing excellence
