About Role

The Assistant Director (Upper School - Head of Sixth Form) is responsible for holistic progress of approximately 400 students in our A-Level programme, alongside taking responsibility for whole-school projects in alignment with individual skills and interests.  The postholder will have a crucial and visible role within the school and, as member of the Academic senior leadership team (CLT), will help shape and guide our ongoing school improvement and strategic development.

Staying true to the Dulwich ethos, vision and values, the postholder will drive improvement of student academic progress underpinned by a strong pastoral system.  The postholder will expertly lead the upper school pastoral team of five pastoral leaders and approximately 30 tutors and co-tutors whilst liaising closely with all other academic staff.

This role, which includes a reduced teaching load (approx.. 50% timetable reduction) is an excellent opportunity for either an existing Senior Leader looking to have a significant impact through a new challenge, or a strong current middle leader looking to step into a senior leadership role in a supportive and dynamic school.  The role is concurrently strategic, tactical, and ‘hands-on', requiring an agile and adaptive approach.  Strong communication, clear thinking, and deep empathy for students, colleagues, families, and other stakeholders are crucial elements of the position.

 


Our School

Dulwich International High School, Suzhou is the school of choice in Suzhou for Chinese parents who wish their children to gain the skills and education necessary for them to be successful in non-Chinese universities.  The major destinations for all of our students is the USA and the UK.  Our school is home to almost 800 students who study IGCSE and A levels. Suzhou is known as the “Venice of the East”.  It has a long and colourful history based around the waterways in the province. Much of Suzhou is designed around the lakes and canal system and it makes for wonderful walking, cycling and exercising opportunities.  Suzhou is a vibrant city that with an enriching arts and performing culture that also offers many scenic areas of peace and tranquillity.  Public transport is cheap and easy to use.  The city is also one of the most multi-cultural in China and offers food and drink from all around the world.

Dulwich International High School Suzhou, also known as SIP Dulwich College United School, was the sixth school to join the Dulwich College International family of schoolsin 2012. We are made up of over 700 students from age 14 to 19. Although our student body is predominantly Chinese, we are open to all nationalities and have a particularly diverse faculty from over 20 countries.  We provide students an academically rigorous, challenging and rewarding international curriculum, designed to offer the very best preparation for entry to universities worldwide.
