The Schools

King Edward’s School and King Edward VI High School for Girls are two of the best independent day schools in the country, sharing a leafy campus in Edgbaston, next to the University of Birmingham. Both schools are part of the King Edward VI Foundation and have high academic standards and a rich and varied extra-curricular programme. The schools have a combined pupil roll of over 1350 pupils aged from 11-18.

The original site was built in the 1930’s and includes 2 swimming pools, 2 sports halls, two off-site sports pavilions and 7 on-site residences. In recent times there have been significant additions to the site including the £11 million Ruddock Performing Arts Centre opened in 2012 and additional teaching spaces in both schools. In the last 12 months, the Schools have spent significant sums on refurbishment projects and on improving the fabric of the Schools.

Further developments are planned at both Schools, meaning that the Facilities Department has a continued key role to play in the management of a site which has expanding use of its facilities by pupils, staff, local schools and hirers.

The Facilities Department

The busy facilities department comprises in-house Cleaning, in-house Portering and Security teams and a range of specialist contractors who are retained by the Schools. The site includes the academic and sports facilities for both Schools situated on the main campus at Edgbaston Park Rd, two satellite sports sites with pavilions on either side of Eastern Rd and seven on-site residences for staff.

The Facilities Department is responsible for cleaning, portering, building maintenance and improvement works, site security and traffic management across the site. Porters duties are extremely varied and extend from furniture and office moves, security support, deliveries and collections, mail, waste and recycling, fire precautions and dealing with maintenance issues by reporting and recording damage through building inspections.

If you wish to be considered for this post, please complete an application form giving full details of your qualifications and experience and the names, addresses and telephone numbers of two referees and a short covering letter.
