Since relaunching in September 2021 with a new name and a new ethos, Queen Elizabeth School is quickly establishing itself as a centre for excellence. Situated on the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire border and close to the market town of Hitchin, the school also benefits from being within five minutes drive of idyllic countryside locations, yet being 5 minutes from the M1 and London Luton Airport. 


We are now looking for an Assistant Head of QE6 to join our team. This is a key position within the school as we launch our new 6th form, QE6 and look to build on the impressive improvements we have already made. This colleague will have operational oversight of QE6, along with other areas of responsibility to be agreed on appointment. This role would be ideal for someone with leadership experience looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to be part of a brand new provision. 

Based on our school priorities we particularly welcome applicants with teaching experience in the following subjects: science, health & social care, IT, DT.

Key duties

  • Provide operational leadership of the QES 6th Form (QE6)
  • Support the Deputy Headteacher: QE6 to develop and implement policies for the 6th form in line with the school’s commitment to high-quality teaching and learning and outstanding pastoral care
  • Act as Quality Nominee for BTEC courses
  • Create a culture where students experience a positive and enriching school life
  • Uphold educational standards in order to prepare students from all backgrounds for their next phase of education and life
  • Ensure a culture of staff professionalism
  • Carry out appraisals and hold staff to account for their performance
  • Treat students with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect
  • Ensure staff and students’ safety and welfare through effective approaches to safeguarding, as part of duty of care
