Field Studies Council (FSC) is an environmental education charity providing informative and enjoyable opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to discover, explore, and understand the environment.
In this key leadership role you will work closely with the Head of Centre to ensure the efficient and effective running of FSC Slapton. The post holder will be responsible for the management of all aspects of the Education team, whilst bringing together the staff to promote excellence across a spectrum of activities, and will also deputise for the Head of Centre in their absence.
FSC Slapton operates two residential centres (Slapton Ley and Start Bay) in the coastal village of Slapton, as well as Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve, the largest freshwater lake in the south west of England. Typically Start Bay caters for up to 40 primary school children and Slapton Ley for up to 120 older students. Looking after our customers is of paramount importance and the Office, Kitchen, Household and Education teams all play their part in ensuring we offer outstanding customer service.
We are looking for someone with previous relevant experience, including the successful management of staff, who has developed and delivered fieldwork at a variety of levels including Key Stage 2, GCSE and A-Level. A degree in Geography, Biology or a closely allied subject is essential as is knowledge of the National Curriculum awarding body specifications.

Slapton Ley Field Centre
Slapton Ley is situated in the coastal village of Slapton, and close to the largest freshwater lake in the south west of England. Dartmoor, Start Bay, farmed landscape, steep sided valleys and extensive reedbeds provide a variety of teaching sites, as does the Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve which the FSC manages on behalf of Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust. Slapton Ley Field Centre has developed an excellent reputation for the delivery of high quality Geography and Biology courses at ‘A’ level. Substantial support work is also provided for visiting university groups.
