Job overview

Dollar Academy is seeking to recruit two Assistant Heads for our Prep and Junior School commencing August 2020.

These new posts have been created alongside the appointment of a Deputy Head across both departments to further strengthen the leadership team of a thriving part of this prestigious 5 – 18 HMC school of 1300 pupils. Dollar Academy is set in a stunning campus location, located in the town of Dollar in central Scotland, about 40 minutes north of Edinburgh.

The successful candidates will be largely responsible for the day to day running of either the Prep or Junior school, each with its own unique building and operational structure. Duties will include, but not be limited to; resources planning, ordering and management of the departmental budget, timetabling in conjunction with senior staff, pastoral care and discipline in conjunction with the Deputy Head, support staff supervision arrangements, teaching cover, oversight of trips and residentials, co-curricular overview, event and production planning, and management and liaison with senior school departments.

Whilst curriculum planning, assessment and tracking will be led by the Deputy Head of the Prep and Junior School, the Assistant Heads will be expected to play a full role in these activities, as well as having the opportunity to design and lead various initiatives. The successful applicants will also be closely involved in admissions testing and the professional review of colleagues.

Both positions will have a class responsibility, albeit with a reduced timetable, the nature of which will be determined by the needs of the department and the successful candidate’s particular strengths.

In all areas, both appointees will work closely with the Deputy Head of the Prep and Junior school, to whom they will report, and with the Head of the Prep and Junior School. Together they will form the leadership team for this dynamic part of the school.

The Academy has a rich co-curricular programme in which all members of staff are expected to participate.

Letters of application for either role (which will be decided on the basis of suitability on appointment), accompanied by the completed application form (available on the school website www.dollaracademy.org.uk) should be sent to The Human Resources Manager, Dollar Academy, Dollar FK14 7DU (or by e-mail to recruitment@dollaracademy.org.uk) by 27th February 2020 with interviews taking place week commencing 9th March 2020.

The salary for these posts will be in accordance with the Scottish scales with the Dollar enhancement of 10% in addition. Candidates should either be registered with the GTC Scotland, or eligible for registration.

All teaching appointments are subject to receipt of a satisfactory PVG membership certificate from Disclosure Scotland.
