Assistant Head of School for Teaching and Learning

Hollinwood AcademyOldham

Part of the New Bridge Multi Academy Trust, Hollinwood Academy provides a broad and balanced curriculum that enables children and young people from reception to Key Stage 5 to access creative learning opportunities tailored to meet their individual needs. We have worked hard to continue to be at the forefront of successful, innovative curriculum design, with overall breadth and balance, which provides children and young people with autism and/or social and communication difficulties with their full entitlement. As a result, the young people benefit from excellent opportunities in all aspects of our curriculum to achieve and improve their academic achievement, social skills, communication skills, knowledge, understanding, well-being and physical development.

Due to the continued expansion of the school an exciting opportunity is now available to join the leadership team. Applicants must be excellent practitioners with an ability to lead and develop both teaching and other classroom staff. The successful candidate will have the support of the current school leadership team and an executive leadership team. So, although the role is a very challenging one we think that it is an exciting and supported opportunity for any ambitious candidate.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an outstanding practitioner with the commitment and motivation to inspire pupils’ learning and development.
  • To have experience, knowledge and understanding of autism and how pupils with autism learn and be able to use knowledge of ASC strategies to adapt learning to meet the needs of these pupils.
  • Oversee, manage and develop Teaching and Learning across Hollinwood Academy (EYFS, primary and secondary); develop policies and provide appropriate feedback to the Head of Site, Governing Board and New Bridge MAT.
  • Work alongside the AH for Curriculum and Assessment and the Specialist Support Lead to ensure appropriate CPD opportunities to support staff to be able to effectively deliver and provide a provision that meets the needs of children and young people with a focus on the following pathways: Academic, Communication and Sensory for students with ASC/SLCN.
  • Act as the established link for teacher training institutions and work placement organisations to ensure student placements are managed successfully.
  • Be part of the safeguarding team, ensuring child protection issues and concerns are promptly dealt with.
  • Implement appropriate strategies for improving and sustaining high standards of teaching, learning and achievement for all children and young people.
  • Be aware of new initiatives and to develop links with support networks and other outside agencies to then advise other colleagues accordingly, e.g. development of INSET and leading staff meetings.
  • Organise and lead professional development where appropriate.
  • Ensure the effective teaching of children and young people by overseeing planning, preparation and assessment, and by any other appropriate evaluative activity.
  • Monitor and evaluate Teacher assessments/test results as appropriate and general pupils’ progress, advising the Head Teacher on action required to raise standards and evaluating impact of such actions on the children’s learning.
  • Ensure that the systems in place for assessment, including daily Assessment for Learning, and the teachers’ use of these systems, have a direct impact on raising standards in the classroom.

Candidates are welcome to arrange a visit (see below).
