An Assistant Head of School Personal Development, Behaviour, Discipline & Welfare  

Required from Easter 2018  

We are looking for an individual who 

  • Has considerable experience of leading whole school behaviour, discipline,  attendance and rewards systems 
  • Inspires students to strive for excellence and is committed to our ethos that we do ‘whatever it takes’ to ensure that all students achieve their potential 

About us: 

The Laurus Vision is for everyone regardless of background or circumstance to be inspired, to thrive in all environments, to recognise what it takes to succeed, to set aspirational goals and work hard to achieve them. 

We are unashamedly academic. We will provide outstanding teaching and a curriculum which develops essential knowledge, attitudes, skills and habits, together with access to wide ranging opportunities for subject enhancement. These will combine to ensure that every child at Laurus Ryecroft is in a position to make outstanding progress and open the door to the future of their choice. 

Laurus Ryecroft will be located on Lumb Lane in Tameside. The school will open in September 2018 for 150 Year 7 students initially in temporary accommodation, growing year on year to full capacity of 1,050 students. In addition to this the school will have a sixth form of 300 students. The school will replicate the outstanding provision offered by the Laurus Trust founding school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS), in Stockport. Our leaders passionately believe in creating a supportive culture where all our staff can develop and thrive. Our staff tell us “It is a privilege to work in the Laurus Trust. I feel that our hard work is recognised, valued and appreciated by the leadership team and opportunities to further develop professionally are promoted and encouraged” (Head of Science, CHHS.) 

In 2015 our Ofsted report stated: 

  • Leaders at every level share a passion for students to succeed and for the school to be a beacon of excellence within the community. 
  • Staff at the school are extremely well led. 
  • Staff remarked “not only are the students looked after, so are we”

Laurus Ryecroft is an oversubscribed secondary school for 11 to 18-year-old students in Tameside. In our very first Ofsted inspection in January 2023, Laurus Ryecroft was judged Outstanding in every category.

The school is run by the Laurus Trust and replicates the outstanding education offered by the Trust’s founder school, Cheadle Hulme High School (CHHS), based in Stockport. CHHS is a hugely oversubscribed school and has been named as one of the UK’s top-performing schools in The Sunday Times, ranking as the 15th non-denominational comprehensive school in Manchester and the North West in the annual Parent Power Survey for 2022.

Laurus Ryecroft is a non-selective, non-denominational free school. It opened in September 2018 and we moved into our new school building with access to state-of-the-art facilities in 2020.  We now have students in years 7 – 12. With the sixth form opening in September 2023.  We currently have a total of 1070 students on roll.

Laurus Ryecroft is a vibrant, warm and exciting place to work and learn in. We are proud to be ‘Unashamedly Academic’ and have the highest aspirations for all of our students. Our Cornerstones – Academic Aspiration; Culture Creativity and Rhetoric; Leadership and Service; Competition and Physical Endeavour – detail how we develop and prepare our students to acquire the knowledge and develop the qualities which will open the door to the future of their choice.

In 2023, 73% of our students achieved grades 9-4 in English and Maths and over half gained a 5 or above in English and Maths. We are very proud of the achievements of our founding cohort.  We are a true learning community and value the acquisition of knowledge and believe it to be truly empowering. Our teachers are passionate about their subject and the students they teach. We pride ourselves on the quality of our learning environment and on the relationships within school.
