The successful candidate will be determined and show an unrelenting commitment to maintaining a culture of safeguarding and professional curiosity. Dependent on experience they will oversee interventions led by a small team of staff to support students in being successful in school. About Sexey's School

Sexey’s is a leading Church of England, co-ed state boarding and day academy for ages 11-18. The school is one of only thirty eight state boarding schools in the country and, with 200 boarders, is one of the largest. The fact that so many students and staff live on the school site gives the school a strong family and community feel, making it a very friendly and rewarding place in which to work.

The school is relatively small for a secondary school with around 590 students, 180 of which are in the Sixth Form. The school provides a predominately academic A Level offering for ages 16-18. The majority of our sixth formers, usually well over 90%, will go on to higher education, many at Russell Group universities.

Sexey’s School has always had a strong academic tradition. In recent years the school has always featured prominently in the national league tables for comprehensive schools. Sexey’s is listed as a Top 100 State school according to The Telegraph. The expectations are high both in terms of the work ethic and student behaviour. Visitors to the school often comment that students are polite, welcoming and confident without being arrogant and, above all, that they appear very happy at the school. This makes Sexey’s a very positive school environment in which to work and it is set in one of the most beautiful areas of the country. The Sunday Times lists Bruton in the Top 10 of the most desirable places to live in Britain and it was the number one destination to visit this summer. With its own railway station, Stourhead National Trust Park, the new contemporary Art gallery, Hauser & Wirth at nearby Durslade Farm, Godminster Cheese and the celebrated restaurant At the Chapel on Bruton High Street, you can understand why.

Sexey’s is a CofE Academy in the diocese of Bath & Wells, and while Christian affiliation is not a prerequisite for a teacher at Sexey’s, there is an expectation for members of staff to support and embrace the Christian ethos and values of tolerance, respect and kindness. Similarly, an understanding of the boarding context of the school is essential and staff are expected to contribute to the boarding dimension, though working in the boarding houses is not essential. Those who choose can be residential or non-residential, and this is subject to a separate contract and additional remuneration. As a boarding school, the terms are shorter than other state schools but the school day is a little longer and staff are required to contribute to the After School Learning (ASL) programme – which ranges from a variety of sport, music, art, drama, culture and a whole lot more.
