Job overview

Mayesbrook Park School provides alternative provision for secondary school students aged 11-16 in Barking and Dagenham. There are three campuses and this post is based at our Mayesbrook Park campus which is our PRU (Pupil Referral Unit). There are up to 70 students on site, including permanently excluded students, KS3 pupils on short on track programmes and pupils on 6 Day+ fixed term exclusions. Many of our students have special educational needs (SEND), mainly SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) and low literacy levels. We are committed to rapid improvement and the Assistant Head SENDCO is a vital part of ensuring we succeed in improving outcomes for all our young people.

We are looking for a well-organised teacher who is qualified (NASC) to lead SEND. You will also lead on Pupil Premium and Looked After Children. This is an excellent and rewarding opportunity for a teacher, who is highly experienced in providing quality first teaching and interventions and who has the patience, dedication and resilience to offer our young people a second chance to engage in education.

You will work closely with the Head Teacher of Mayesbrook Park campus Ms Cathy Stygal and with the SEND leads at our other campuses to implement our SEND strategy. You will play a key role in designing, monitoring and delivering interventions and supporting other staff to ensure all SEND students make good progress from their starting points. You will manage and develop our small team of teaching assistants. You will receive constant, committed and consistent support from our leadership team and from our local authority SEND team and an excellent staff development programme.

Visits to the Campus are encouraged and can be arranged by contacting Mandy Little - telephone 020 8270 6734 or Mlittle@mayesbrookparkschool.org.uk
