Inspire their remarkable with us

Wishmore Cross Academy is a special school for young people all of whom have an EHCP identifying social, emotional and mental health difficulties as their primary need.  Wishmore Cross Academy is part of a family of schools brought together by one common vision and passionate belief that each and every child can lead a remarkable life. An excellent education transforms lives and every pupil who attends one of our schools is given the support, care and opportunity they need to flourish. Whether you are an experienced teacher seeking a new leadership challenge or a middle leader who is looking to work towards your first headship, this is a unique and exciting  opportunity to assist with taking our School forward.

The Academy is situated in Chobham, Surrey and draws pupils from a range of backgrounds, both urban and rural, across Surrey and also neighbouring LEAs.

Our academy is on a journey of improvement.  Under its current executive and interim leadership the academy has moved forward and green shoots are starting to show but there is still work to do. We have just appointed a new Head of School for September and Gareth Howells, the Executive Head has experience leading both Newlands Academy in Peckham, London as well as Wishmore Cross (both SEMH boys schools) so you will be extremely well-supported and it's an excellent time to join us!  We are looking for an ambitious, driven and compassionate leader to join our new team as Assistant Head, ideally taking the lead on Data and Assessment.  This role comes with a 50% teaching timetable.  You will have a passion for school improvement and be able to lead and support a creative approach to learning.  If you are driven, resilient and relish a challenge this is the right opportunity for you.

This is an excellent opportunity for a leader looking to gain both the experience of assisting with the running of a school with the benefit of working as part of a national trust. You will be joining the leading inclusive educational trust in the country - one where you have more opportunities to forge your own path, where your work is truly valued and where you will receive the recognition and rewards to motivate you to build on your achievements.

AET has led the way in the response to the Covid pandemic, with children at the centre. Investment in IT equipment for our most deprived learners and high quality virtual learning for all meant education continued. Robust risk procedures were followed to keep our children and staff safe and we shared best practice to support each other.

Using what we’ve learned over the last few years, we now have an ambitious vision of a new model of education for the future to be rolled out over the next few years.

We passionately believe that every child can discover their own remarkable life. It’s what motivates us around here. We know this vision requires something extra. Which is why at AET, you’ll find more. More opportunities, so you can forge your own path. More care and support, so you can prioritise what matters most. More purpose, for you and for the children we’re inspiring.

We offer:

  • More opportunity to grow your career - We’ll support you in developing your career and experience at this school or another AET school.
  • More tailored support - We understand every academy is unique. We’ll give you tailored support and flexibility, allowing you to do what’s best for your children.
  • More chance to see what’s out there - We create opportunities for teachers to visit other AET academies and learn from outside experience.
  • More like minded colleagues, so you can benefit from others’ experience - You’re connected to our network of 58 academies and thousands of education professionals.
  • More technology so you can make more impact - Google Workspace Enterprise for Education embedded throughout. Collaborative cloud technology gives you access to the latest tools, when and where it suits you. More tech enabled classrooms mean less time spent on admin and more time teaching.
  • More time - We strive to minimise unnecessary distractions so you can have energy for your job, and your life.

Wishmore Cross is a Special Academy for up to 82 boys (with 80 currently on roll) aged 7 to 16 who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties. We provide a highly effective and individual package of education, care and pastoral support to young people who may have had only negative experiences of school. A safe, caring environment supported by high levels of staffing ensures that each pupil has the opportunity to achieve their full potential.

Based in Chobham, located close to both the M3 and M25 Motorways in the north-west corner of Surrey, the Academy draws pupils from a range of backgrounds, both urban and rural, across Surrey and also neighbouring LEAs.

We're an Academy with a big heart. Staff work closely as a team and pride themselves on never giving up on a pupil. This is, however, a challenging environment where resilience and a deep commitment to supporting young people with Special Educational Needs are paramount.
