Job overview

The School

Taipei European School is an independent, co-educational day school, which was formed through the amalgamation of The Taipei British School, Ecole Française de Taipei and Deutsche Schule Taipei. It operates as a single European entity through a non-profit making Foundation.

The school has attracted worldwide attention with its unique model for integrating British, French and German sections in terms of curricula, administration, finance, buildings and facilities. TES is now home to 1,700 students from 50 different nationalities.

Our school comprises four sections: British Primary Section, French Section, German Section and British Secondary and High School Section. TES operates on two separate sites. The Swire European Primary Campus accommodates primary students, and the Swire European Secondary Campus caters for students from the age of 11 to 18 years.

TES is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools and the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The two British Sections are members of COBIS.

The Assistant Head position is for the British Primary Section. At the British Primary Section we use the English National Curriculum as our framework for learning. This provides children’s learning with a clear progression in skill development and, alongside our inquiry approach, ensures that learning is meaningful, challenging and engaging. We provide experiences that are personalised, allowing us to meet children’s needs and develop critical and creative thinkers.

We are looking for candidates whose dynamism, commitment, energy, professional expertise and experience qualify them to take on this exciting and challenging role. The successful candidate will be academically able, an excellent classroom teacher, an excellent communicator, capable of giving effective and inspiring leadership to staff, and will fully understand the commitment required of all staff in this busy and complex school.

The Post

The Assistant Head will be responsible for key curriculum and learning initiatives, particular staff management and development and will play a key role in school development and raising academic standards. Details are on the school website.

About Taipei European School

The TES Community

With an enrolment of over 1,300 students from around 800 international families, a staff of 220 teachers and support personnel, and operations across two campuses, Taipei European School requires a professional, integrated organisational structure for the efficient leadership and management of the school.

Governance

As with many educational organisations, TES makes a distinction between governance , involving matters of policy, strategic and longer term planning, and management , which is focused on the day-to-day implementation and supervision of the operations of the school.

TES Board of Directors (TESBOD):

The Taipei European School is registered as a legal entity in the form of a non-profit Foundation supervised by the Bureau of Education within Taipei City Government. The executive body of the TES Foundation is the TES Board of Directors (TESBOD) which consists of nine members. Six of these members (including the Chairman) are required to be nationals of the Republic of China and this Board meets approximately three or four times a year. The main function of TESBOD is to supervise the actions of the school as the ultimate legally responsible body, and is required, therefore, to approve strategic plans, significant developments and annual budgets.

The mission of the Taipei European School is to provide educational excellence and European culture and values within the context of Taiwanese society.

We aim to become the school of choice for parents and children, teachers and other staff.
We aim at providing a high standard of education to international students:
(currently) through British, French and German curricula for 3-14 year olds and through a common senior school for 14-18 year olds, using mainly the English medium as a foundation for higher education and training.
