Job overview

Assistant Head Teacher

Required from September 2017

Inner London Salary L14 – L18

‘I know why my son loves school. His teachers are fantastic and Addey and Stanhope brings out new talents he didn’t even know he had!’ (Parent)

‘Addeys is my second family. We are all part of the family: students, teachers, parents, governors’ (Student)

‘I am excited about our Addey’s future’ (Teacher).

Addey and Stanhope is rich in tradition. It is also forward-looking:  a place of excitement and innovation. Most importantly, we are a community, a family. We all work here because we believe that we can make a difference to the life chances of the young people of Deptford. This has remained the core purpose of the school for 300 years and this will never be compromised.

Does this feel like a good fit for you? Are you an outstanding and experienced senior leader? Are you able to lead a team of committed and collegiate staff? Are you excited by leading change? Do you believe in the enormous promise of every single young person?

If so, we would love to hear from you. You will be joining a collaborative, creative, highly inclusive school where we will always enable teachers to be the best teachers that they can be so that our students can have the bright futures that they deserve.

We are looking for an exceptional leader, manager and teacher to help us realise Addey’s outstanding potential.

There is a real opportunity to discuss and utilise the strengths of the successful candidate.  We know that appointing the right person who shares the same ethos as the school and who has the right interpersonal skills will be as or more important than simply having a skill set in one particular area. There is an expectation in that roles will change over time to ensure professional development and meet our community’s changing needs.

Visits/phone calls welcome. Please arrange with Lisa Madden (Head Teacher’s PA on the school telephone number)

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful applicant will be subject to DBS checks.

Addey & Stanhope School follows the Lewisham Council’s Equal Opportunities Policy

Deadline for completed application forms: Thursday 4th May, 9:00am

About Addey and Stanhope School

Addey and Stanhope is a school at the heart of the Deptford community in South East London. We are a small, caring, high-achieving school that is rich in tradition and history.  Above all, we are a family at Addey and Stanhope – teachers, students, parents/carers and governors – a family that has the happiness, health and success of our students at the heart of everything we do.

The school is mixed, non-denominational, and was reclassified from a grammar school to a voluntary aided school in 1977.  It is heavily oversubscribed each year and extremely popular with parents because of its reputation and ethos. We are proud of its comprehensive intake, excellent results and the fact that our students speak of Addeys as a ‘second family’.

At Addey and Stanhope we are committed to staff wellbeing and we provide a unique programme of professional development. We close early one day a week in order to facilitate this. We have strong links with a range of partners (locally, nationally and internationally) and this contributes to the professional learning of our staff.

Deptford is a vibrant and eclectic community with a thriving arts scene, only 5 miles South East of central London. The school has excellent transport links and is served by the underground, trains, DLR and buses.
