Job overview

Plumstead Manor is a thriving and rapidly improving school, dedicated to providing a world-class education to the young people and families of Royal Greenwich. We hold a strong commitment to promoting excellence, justice and success for young women and we look forward to extending this support and developing this to all young people as we welcome a mixed intake in to Year 7 from September 2018.

Our goal is to inspire and nurture young people of all abilities and backgrounds to develop a love of learning which will sustain them through their lives. It is this which will successfully see them into further education and the fulfilling career of their choice. We believe that high quality teaching, in a safe, friendly and harmonious community, is the key to unlocking the potential that all our young people have, so that they can go on to change the world for the better.

We are seeking a senior leader who shares both our vision and our positive ethos promoting excellence and equality for all. You will have proven leadership experience together with the collaborative, investigative and analytical skills necessary to lead the development and provision of the highest quality education.

As an Assistant Head (Pastoral), you will work alongside a Deputy Head and another Assistant Head, as well as a range of middle leaders involved in our pastoral and inclusion provision to make sure we are a safe and happy school, where high standards and expectations for behaviour and good manners, work in tandem with high aspirations and academic rigour. We are an inclusive school and our pastoral teams are at the heart of everything we do. This is a pivotal moment in the school’s history and we are seeking a senior leader to bring greater capacity to this crucial aspect of our work. You will have the opportunity to work on key strategic areas such as standards of behaviour, discipline, rewards and praise, attendance and early help. The exact nature and scope of the responsibilities will be finalised upon appointment of the successful candidate.

You will need to be an inspirational leader, with a track record in creating a climate which enables others to flourish and develop, at the same time as rigorously holding people to account for a raising standards agenda. You should share our vision and commitment to academic scholarship, and high expectations for behaviour and personal development. We can offer you the chance to work in a truly comprehensive school, which has made significant and sustained improvement in the last 24 months. You will also join a strong and supportive senior leadership team, with a clear vision founded on excellence and justice, and the ambition to offer a world-class education to the young people and families of Greenwich.

About Plumstead Manor School

Plumstead Manor is a thriving and popular secondary school located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. There has been a school on our site since 1913, with the first 105 years as a girls’ school. In response to local demand we admitted our first mixed cohort in 2018 and gradually move to being fully co-educational by 2022.

We are a large, inclusive, comprehensive school and have capacity for 1,500 students aged 11-18. We have our own Sixth Form of around 300 students and welcome students from our own cohort as well as students from within the local area. Our students progress onto the full range of future pathways, including medicine and veterinary science courses at the most competitive universities and high-quality apprenticeships.
