About us

Plumstead Manor is a thriving and rapidly improved school judged Good by Ofsted. We are dedicated to providing a world-class education to the young people and families of Royal Greenwich, and hold a strong commitment to promoting excellence, justice and success for all our young people.

Our goal is to inspire, challenge and support young people of all abilities and backgrounds to develop a love of learning which will sustain them throughout their lives. This is our recipe to ensure they progress onto higher education or the fulfilling career of their choice. Our first priority is academic excellence so that students maximise their full potential and realise their ambitions. Alongside this we want them to develop into articulate, confident and accomplished young people by providing outstanding pastoral care and wider opportunities for personal and social development. These are the conditions in which all our young people can flourish and excel, and which will see them develop into active citizens ready to change the world for the better.

About the role

As Assistant Head, you will lead the ongoing development of teaching and learning across the school, and act as the school’s professional development coordinator. You will monitor teaching quality, and seek to evolve and develop a distinct ‘Plumstead Pedagogy’ which blends the development of powerful knowledge, alongside a suite of essential skills and habits which will secure the future well-being of our young people economically, socially and emotionally. In this you will lead a team of expert staff, and work in partnership with colleagues in other schools to foster a culture of continuous and high-quality learning and professional development across our staff body.

You will need to be an inspirational leader, having the ability to be both strategic and systematic. You will need to have a track record of leading change and creating improvement, and you must share our vision and commitment to academic scholarship welded to high expectations for behaviour and personal development. We can offer you the chance to work in a true comprehensive school, and to join a strong and supportive senior leadership team, which has a track record of sustained improvement. If you feel this fits with your own values and vision, then this could just be the role for you.

About Plumstead Manor School

Plumstead Manor is a thriving and popular secondary school located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. There has been a school on our site since 1913, with the first 105 years as a girls’ school. In response to local demand we admitted our first mixed cohort in 2018 and gradually move to being fully co-educational by 2022.

We are a large, inclusive, comprehensive school and have capacity for 1,500 students aged 11-18. We have our own Sixth Form of around 300 students and welcome students from our own cohort as well as students from within the local area. Our students progress onto the full range of future pathways, including medicine and veterinary science courses at the most competitive universities and high-quality apprenticeships.
