This is an exciting leadership opportunity at Crookhorn College in Waterlooville. The post is a crucial part of the next stage of development of the College vision which is clearly focused on improving the knowledge and skills of all teaching staff to ensure a consistency of excellent ‘Quality First Teaching’. This role is also essential in providing the required strategic leadership within the College for Inclusion and SEND provision, as directed by the Headteacher.

Experience Knowledge & Understanding

  • Understanding of the College’s responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 and the knowledge and experience to make reasonable adjustments.
  • Understanding of the current national SEND strategy and how to deploy the SEND code of practice efficiently and effectively within the College.
  • To have a clear understanding and passionate belief in the Principles of Inclusion.
  • Contribute to the College Performance Plan and whole College vision.
  • Lead on procedural information, such as the College’s SEN policy and the SEN Code of Practice.
  • Promote an ethos and culture that supports the College’s SEN policy and promotes excellent outcomes for students with SEN or a disability.
  • Undertake responsibilities as a member of the Leadership Team of the College.
  • Identify training needs for staff and how to meet these needs.
  • Lead INSET for staff.
  • Lead and manage the Assistant SENCO and an extensive Learning Support Team comprising of HLTAs and Learning Support Assistants (LSAs)
  • Lead teaching staff appraisals and support staff IPPs.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting information for the Governing Body as required.
  • As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, act as a role model of professional conduct and presence with colleagues, students, parents and the wider community.
  • Promote the highest standards of student behaviour, attendance and punctuality, conduct and attitudes at all times.

The Successful Candidate will:

  • Be an experienced SENCO.
  • Have been a part of a senior leadership team (desirable but not essential).
  • Be comfortable in the public domain and leading whole College projects successfully.
  • Have the ability to think strategically and solve problems.
  • Have a clear vision for raising outcomes.
  • Be inspirational and motivate others.
  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner particularly in regards to teaching and learning.
  • Have a passion for outstanding learning.
