Job overview

The Richard Huish Trust are looking to appoint a forward thinking, inspirational leader to set up and manage their Franklin Centre which is due to open in September 2022.

The Polden Bower and the Avalon Federation, experts in specialist education provision, are supporting the Richard Huish Trust  to develop The Franklin Centre which will be a facility for pupils in the Huish Trust schools (Primary and Secondary) to have some time away from their usual school in the Trust, when it is anticipated that a short period, or a regular programme, of therapeutic intervention will be beneficial in supporting the child to remain effectively engaged or to re-engage in education.

The Richard Huish Trust recognise that it takes exceptional people to deliver exceptional education and as such offers a place to work where:

Pupils and Students are at the centre of our decision making

Being relentless in striving to achieve the best is encouraged in every role

Decision making about education in the Huish Trust is driven collectively by our Headteachers and their teams

Creativity and innovation is actively encouraged

Making a positive difference is what matters

The Assistant Headteacher (Centre lead) will lead and manage a safe, nurturing learning environment which caters for children and young people within Richard Huish Trust who require additional support to engage and attend to their learning.

The post holder will contribute to the exceptional education provided in the Trust:

• By raising achievement and progress by managing the teaching, learning and assessment of their designated cohort of students.

• By taking an operational lead for the centre including management of the site, including health and safety.

• By managing staffing and developing staff through line management, performance management and providing high quality CPD

• By working with other stakeholders and professionals to support children and young people and act as an ambassador for our schools.

• Improve the process and quality of provision through monitoring and scrutiny.

• Mange a budget for the provision.

• Develop the curriculum and evidence based interventions.

• Overseeing the Forest School provision for both the schools within the trust and wider community.

• Foster socialisation and citizenship of our students through the development of a behaviour and approach response strategy.

• Respond to external drivers including Local Authority changes to the SLA

• Act as a DDSL (Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead) working closely with the Safeguarding teams within the schools and multi-agencies.

• Be enthusiastic and energetic and promote the centre within the trust community.

There will be an expectation that this role will include up to 2 days a week teaching. This will be flexible according to the needs of the centre.

Interviews will be held during w/c 11th July 2022
