We are seeking an inspirational, visionary, and committed Assistant Headteacher to join the leadership team at St Joseph’s College, a thriving and inclusive Catholic Lasallian community in the heart of South London. This is a unique opportunity for an outstanding leader to help shape the future of our students and staff, working closely with our Co-Headteachers and Senior Leadership Team to deliver excellence in all aspects of college life.
Start Date: September 2025
Salary: L10 – L14 (Outer London)
Areas of Responsibility: Negotiable, based on the candidate’s experience and strengths
Responsible to: Co-Headteachers
At St Joseph’s College, we are proud of our strong Catholic identity and Lasallian heritage. Our mission is rooted in Gospel values, with a deep commitment to inclusion, social justice, academic excellence, and the development of the whole child. As Assistant Headteacher, you will be integral in translating this mission into action – helping to lead a learning community where every student is known, valued, and supported to flourish.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
You will support the Co-Headteachers in driving the school’s strategic vision and improvement priorities. You’ll work collaboratively with stakeholders including Governors, staff, families, the Diocese, and De La Salle networks to ensure our vision is embedded in daily practice and long-term planning.
Leadership in Catholic Education:
You will lead with moral purpose, championing our ethos and values through daily interactions, teaching and learning, and community engagement. You’ll inspire a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and mutual respect, enabling students to become enthusiastic, lifelong learners and global citizens.
Developing Self and Others:
You’ll lead by example and invest in the growth and development of staff across the college. Creating a culture of reflection, ambition, and professional learning is central to this role. You will support others to achieve their potential, celebrate team successes, and model the principles of fairness, equity, and dignity.
Managing the Organisation:
You will contribute to the effective day-to-day running of the college, helping to create a safe, calm, and well-ordered environment where excellent teaching and learning can thrive. Your presence and leadership around the site will help sustain high standards of conduct, safety, and engagement.
Securing Accountability:
You’ll play a vital role in ensuring that the college community works collaboratively to meet ambitious goals. You will help to set clear expectations, support robust performance management, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. Communicating the school’s performance and successes to governors, families, and external partners will be key.
Strengthening the Community:
As a visible and active leader, you will forge strong partnerships with parents, carers, local organisations, and external agencies. You will help promote the college’s role as a hub of faith, learning, service, and opportunity in the wider community, ensuring our new facilities and resources are used to benefit all.
What We’re Looking For:
- A passionate and reflective leader with a clear commitment to Catholic education
- A strategic thinker with the ability to inspire and lead others towards a shared vision
- A strong track record of impact in previous leadership roles, especially in raising standards and improving outcomes
- A positive, collaborative approach with a drive to innovate, improve, and empower
- A deep belief in the potential of all young people, and the ability to cultivate this belief in others
This post offers flexibility in areas of responsibility, which will be tailored to suit the successful candidate's strengths and the evolving needs of the school. It is ideal for an experienced senior leader looking to make a significant contribution to a vibrant and faith-filled school community.
If you are motivated by the opportunity to help lead an ambitious and nurturing school with Gospel values at its heart, we warmly invite you to apply.
Please note: CVs alone will not be accepted. All applicants must complete the application form and return it to Mrs P Smith, Headteacher’s PA, at psmith@sjc.ac.
