April 2024

Dear Applicant,

Welcome to The Hyde! Strong relationships underpin everything we do here. As an Assistant Headteacher, you will be working as part of our Senior Leadership Team to lead our very special school, where children are at the centre of all we do. We are looking for someone who truly believes in enabling all children to be the best that they can be. The successful candidate will have the knowledge and ambition to provide exciting, purposeful and challenging learning opportunities throughout the Early Years.

Our children are fabulous and have positive attitudes towards their learning. Our staff team is committed to providing meaningful and memorable learning opportunities for all children and, as a result, our children enjoy a unique learning experience as they travel through The Hyde. We were graded as ‘outstanding’ in our last Ofsted Inspection in May 2015. Our school has a clear vision for development and successful strategies for making these happen! Our achievements include:

  • Flagship School for Inclusion
  • Being awarded The Wellbeing Award for Schools 2022
  • Being awarded The Artsmark Platinum award
  • Representing Barnet in the London Youth Games
  • Children do well at sports and win lots of medals in a range of sporting

events, including winning the netball league five years in succession!

  • Extending our Urban Adventure Curriculum
  • Achieving above National Average outcomes for our children year after year

Children have a huge say in what they learn at The Hyde. We have devised an ‘Urban Adventure’ curriculum that is fun, skills based and relevant to our children. This is also reflected within our Early Years. Children’s interests and skills-based learning is placed at the centre of our pedagogy. Children are encouraged to express themselves in their own unique way, whilst staff facilitate learning opportunities through carefully planned next steps. We focus on a range of real experiences and encourage each year group to go on trips, locally and further afield. Giving children rich and relevant experiences impacts positively on their learning across the curriculum and the children simply love it! The progress of children’s learning in our Early Years is truly outstanding.

   Staffing Structure and Support

We have an incredibly talented Leadership Team who work with Phase Leaders focusing on teaching and learning. I am seconded to our academy trust for a day a week as the London Regional Lead for SEND supporting other Elliot Foundation Schools. Our team of Deputy and Assistant Headteachers lead on the teaching and learning agenda, developing their phase teams and middle leaders.

There are a multitude of opportunities for professional development at The Hyde. Our Deputy Headteachers, Assistant Headteachers and our ‘in house’ Lead Practitioners offer coaching cycles of support and team teaching experiences. We strongly encourage outreach work and many of us support other schools within our Academy Trust and in Barnet, Brent and Herts. A number of our teachers are Expert Teachers within our Academy Trust, Local Authority moderators and offer support to other schools.
