Start date:

Job overview

Ashmead is a values-based learning community with an ambitious vision for children: “We want all children leaving us knowing they are both loveable and capable.” We want children to succeed academically as well as emotionally. We don’t compromise on either aim and we see these aims as in harmony, not in conflict with each other. If you would like to help us realise this vision we’d love to hear from you.

We need an excellent teacher to help lead inclusion here from September (or sooner if you are available). You will play a key role in making our vision come true, helping us to develop our pastoral care provision and improving how we support children’s mental health as well as ensuring that all children make excellent academic progress.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an excellent classroom practitioner, ideally with experience in more than one phase.
  • Demonstrate a proven commitment to high expectations and raising standards for all children; to be aware of the damaging effect of assumptions adults can make about children with SEND or from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate a passion for and commitment to inclusive practice.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills in working with staff, parents and other agencies (being able to offer support as well as challenge skilfully).
  • Be able to prioritise; demonstrate excellent time management in working to a deadline and have excellent organisational skills.
  • Be able to act on own initiative and demonstrate the ability to adapt to changing circumstances, working practices and new ideas.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to drive their own further professional development independently of opportunities offered at school.
  • Be able to demonstrate readiness for senior leadership.
  • Have very strong spoken and written communication skills

We can offer you:

  • A gorgeous school environment with great facilities, your own Macbook, air-conditioned classrooms and a treehouse!
  • A very well-resourced school, with capacity for further investment to support excellence in inclusion.
  • A school that is committed to helping staff develop, e.g. through professional coaching and excellent CPD (we are just embarking on a two-year Achievement for All project and are in the middle of delivering NASEN training to all staff).
  • A school that is passionate about learning, where practice is based on recent and reliable research.

About Ashmead Primary School

Ashmead School was rebuilt as a one form entry school in 2008 and was expanded to a two form entry school in 2017. The school currently has approximately 300 pupils aged from 3 to 11 years of age. The Nursery offers part time and full time places for children from 3 to 4 years of age.

The school site has two main buildings, the lower school on Ashmead Road housing children from EYFS to Year Three and the upper school on Lewisham Way for children in Years Four, Five and Six. Both buildings provide excellent learning and teaching spaces. All the classrooms and associated work spaces are light and airy. The outdoor play and learning spaces are excellent and include a Forest School, trim trail equipment, a treetop walkway and tree-house in addition to the loose part resources available as part of our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) Provision.

Ashmead is a values based community where children and adults are respected as individuals. Our vision is that through excellent teaching and care, every child leaves us knowing they are both lovable and capable. There is a high level of support and close links exist between parents, staff and pupils. There is a strong family atmosphere within the school. Parents are supportive and the PTA works together with teachers and support staff to put on many social and fundraising events throughout the year. Parents and members of the local community often also help out in school as volunteers.

There is a large number of support staff working in the classes in school and they form an important and valued part of the team. Many of our support staff have specialist skills and offer academic interventions or extra-curricular activities for the children.
