Assistant Headteacher - KS3/KS4

The posts of Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 Coordinators are key leadership roles within the school. The post holders will form part of the Secondary Leadership Team at Assistant Head Teacher level. As members of the SLT, the post holders will be required to exercise effective academic and pastoral leadership for Key Stage 3/4 (as relevant); contribute to setting and delivering the strategic goals for Key Stage 3/4; lead on and ensure learning and teaching across Key Stage 3/4; and to lead, manage and mentor colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the ethos, environment and approaches fit with Kings’ values and its “culture of kindness”
  • Contribute and lead on 3-18 developments across Kings’
  • The strategic direction and development of Key Stage 3/Key Stage 4, as applicable 
  • Students’ welfare, progress, high standards of behaviour and achievement across Key Stage 3/Key Stage 4
  • Leadership of a cluster of subject areas or Faculty
  • Leadership of a team of Year Leaders (Years 7, 8 and 9 for KS3 and Years 10 and 11 for KS4)
  • Oversee the effective running of pastoral systems including assemblies; attendance; delivery of PSHE including Moral Education and careers; liaising with the school doctor
  • To monitor, evaluate, and review standards of leadership, teaching and learning, and pupil achievement against school, national and international standards, including by regular lesson observation, sampling work, collating and interpreting data
  • Working with individual teachers on the monitoring of progress in their classes and the co-ordination of targeted intervention for underachieving students, including strategies to identify and monitor these students 
  • To contribute to whole school planning, review, monitoring and evaluation and contribute to the whole school self-evaluation 
  • Working with the Key Stage 3/4 Coordinator to ensure a fluid transition between KS3 and KS4 during Year 9 and facilitating early entry for GCSE at KS4 
  • For KS 4 specifically   - Liaison with Deputy Head Teacher regarding the organisation, smooth running and analysis of students’ mock and GCSE examinations        - Working with the Post-16 Coordinator to ensure a fluid transition between KS4 and post 16
  • Research into new developments within Key Stage 3/4, investigating and piloting new initiatives for approaches to learning and achieving the UAEs 2020 goal
  • Ensure that Performance Management (PM) is carried out according to school and national regulations and that staff receive regular feedback, which supports progress against their PLR objectives
  • Ensure effective communication with parents so that they are up-to-date with curriculum developments and their children’s progress
  • Undertake any reasonable request made by the Head Teacher or Director
