Melbury College is seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic leader who would like to broaden their experience in managing and working with young people across a Secondary Provision for pupils with medical and mental health issues. We require a flexible and inspirational leader with a strong commitment to raising standards of teaching and learning and maintaining exceptional practice in pastoral care. They need to display the drive and enthusiasm necessary to ensure continuous improvement and to promote a positive school culture.

Melbury College is a partnership that includes, Lavender Campus, Whatley Campus, Melrose School- Primary and Secondary, Canterbury Campus PRU and Merton Alternative Education Service.

Lavender Campus is an expanding provision for pupils unable to attend school due to a medical or mental health condition. These pupils are educated in a specialist classroom environment, by highly specialist trained staff, or are temporarily educated at home to continue their education. Pupils engage in intensive transitional packages to support reintegration back to school once they are able, or to move to a more suitable educational provision. The provision supports KS1-4 pupils, with the majority of pupils in KS4. 

The successful candidate will work alongside the Head teacher to lead a successful education team, providing vision, leadership and direction for the continuing development and improvement of Lavender.   The Assistant Head will be responsible for developing the pastoral curriculum and support and for improving outcomes for all students by removing barriers to progress. They will lead on the quality of teaching across the school for all pupils. 

Candidates should have:

•   experience of leading in one or more of the following areas – quality of education, behaviour and attitudes or personal development

•   an excellent teaching record

•   experience of the use restorative practices and de-escalation strategies as well as good rapport with pupils.

•   successful management experience

•   ability to monitor and review through self-evaluation, report writing and a clear system of record keeping

•   ability to lead flexibly, innovatively and responsively in a challenging environment

•   ability to manage resources effectively to meet priorities

•   ability to liaise effectively with schools, other agencies and parents

•   evidence of ability to successfully manage and support pupils with SEMH/ mental health issues
