Located 30 traffic-free minutes away from the centre of Newcastle, we are situated in one of the most beautiful areas of the UK, including the historic village of Warkworth and its castle to the north, the picturesque fishing village of Amble, and an area of outstanding national beauty at Druridge Bay   

James Calvert Spence College is situated in a beautiful coastal town in Northumberland and is a 9-19 through school, catering for students from Year 5 to Year 13.

Following the promotion of the current post holder to headship, we are looking for an innovative and outstanding leader to drive substantial change within our school. Whether your background is primary, middle or secondary – if you have the right skillset and a determination to improve the lives of our students, we would love to hear from you.

Having recently merged from a previously hard federated middle and high school to form a 9-18 through school, we need an inspirational and creative person to join our team in leading a period of transformation to seamlessly join the two schools.

2017 GCSE and A-Level results show a significant improvement in attainment and progress and we’re looking for the right person to work within our close Executive Leadership Team to help drive further improvement and make our school the very best it can be for our community.

On a day-to-day basis you will provide professional direction and management for the college and your inspirational leadership will engage and inspire staff, pupils and the local community. You will provide success and improvement, ensuring high quality education for all students and improved standards of learning, progress and attainment. 

The exact role and responsibilities will be determined by the strengths of the successful candidate, and agreed with the Executive Headteacher.

  • Be a strong classroom practitioner, keen to develop your own skills further
  • Be a positive role model
  • Have high expectations of yourself and others
