Job overview

Hylands School. Where Teachers love Teaching.

We are part of TKAT, a charitable trust that is inspiring learners and changing lives across 45 schools in the South and East of England.

In all our schools, we love teaching. Simple. We love it when students "get it". When they have that penny drop moment after struggling and thinking hard. We love class discussions, we love silent contemplation and study, we also love students working together.

At Hylands we love developing our teaching. We understand that great teaching is the reason why students at Hylands are great learners. Nothing trumps great pedagogy.  This is why we send students home early on a Tuesday and spend two hours each week talking, collaborating and planning our teaching, and then we all leave before 5pm. As one of 14 secondary schools in TKAT, the trust also offers excellent CPD opportunities, a wide range of support, and a number of events where you can meet and engage with colleagues from other schools.

Hylands School is seeking to appoint a dynamic, experienced senior leader to motivate and inspire students and staff alike.

The position requires the candidate to have a proven record of significant leadership experience and raising standards through innovation and creativity. The role will incorporate line management of the heads of year and pastoral team. We are looking for an inspiring practitioner who can support the wellbeing of our students through outstanding pastoral care.

What we can offer you:

• Opportunities to work with successful and hard-working leaders both in school and across The Kemnal Academies Trust.

• Access to high quality Continuous Professional Development including support towards future Headship.

• Opportunities to work as part of a team to develop strategies at both local and national level.

The successful applicant will be a strong classroom practitioner with a proven record of raising standards through their own teaching as well as whole school. There will be a teaching commitment to the role. They will understand that first wave teaching is the key to successful whole school improvement, and be able to demonstrate the ability to drive the raising of standards in teaching and learning across Hylands.

It is essential the candidate can demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills, be able to work flexibly as part of a team, deliver under pressure and have the experience of developing teaching and learning at a strategic level. It is desirable that the successful applicant has experience of developing interventions for all abilities that demonstrates a positive impact on students.

The successful candidate will be someone who knows how to inspire students in order to challenge them to achieve outstanding progress and is someone who is prepared to go ‘above and beyond’.

The school offers excellent working conditions and staff receive strong support for their professional development. Committed and excellent practitioners will find Hylands School a place where career development is taken very seriously. You will also have the chance to work and possibly live in an exciting and newest city in England, just 30 minutes by train from London Liverpool Street

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and their achievements both inside and outside school. The post requires enhanced DBS clearance, medical checks and satisfactory references.

The school is committed to equality of opportunity. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of any protected characteristic for example race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit. This includes applications from individuals wishing to work full time, part-time or on a flexible basis.
