Job overview

The progress of students in the school has improved rapidly since it gained academy status and students’ overall achievement is good.”  OFSTED 2013

“The newly introduced Years 9 to 11 curriculum is outstanding because it is well tailored to students’ capabilities and has had a dramatic impact on raising their achievement”.  OFSTED 2013

“Leaders have designed the curriculum to meet the needs of pupils of all abilities.  The most able pupils sit GCSE examinations early and, if they meet their target early, can start A Level courses in Year 11”. Ofsted 2017

Westminster City School is a successful 11-18 boys’ Christian non-denominational comprehensive academy with a mixed sixth form. Ours is a lively and vibrant learning community situated in the heart of central London with all the challenges and advantages of an inner city school. The school was judged as ‘Good’ by Ofsted in early 2013 with an outstanding curriculum and governance.

We are not complacent and are pro-active in our ambition to become recognised as an “Outstanding” school and standards have improved considerably since that judgement. The GCSE results in 2016 were 71% A* - C in five or more GCSEs including English & mathematics.

You like us, will share our belief in the highest standards of academic attainment in a comprehensive setting.  We are therefore seeking to recruit an inspirational, professional and highly skilled Assistant Headteacher to specifically focus on improving and developing outcomes in English and/or whole school teaching and learning although candidates with significant experience of improving outcomes in other curriculum areas are welcome to apply for this leadership role.   The successful candidate will have a proven track record of raising achievement in English and/or other curriculum areas or teaching and learning across the whole school.

This is an ideal post for an outstanding middle leader seeking whole school responsibility and promotion to senior leadership. You will play a significant role in helping the school move from good to outstanding and be joining a dynamic, effective and supportive senior leadership team.

We believe in developing our staff and have an energetic and supportive staff team and an effective CPD programme which includes a regular teaching and learning forum. We welcome applications from experienced middle or senior leaders.

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The successful applicant will need to undertake a criminal record check via the DBS.
