Job overview

Do you thrive on challenge?

Do you want to make a genuine difference to young people’s lives?

Are you a courageous and outstanding leader?

Then read on...

We are delighted to announce that we are adding capacity to our Leadership team by creating a new post for an Assistant Headteacher with a focus on Quality of Education. We are therefore seeking to recruit an ambitious Assistant Headteacher who will enthuse pupils to learn with a combination of great subject knowledge, energy and dedication. At Churchill Community College we are on a journey to ensure all our students are inspired, supported and challenged to achieve the best they possibly can so that they have the widest possible opportunities when they leave school.

Recently, the school has undergone significant challenges including the recent OFSTED visit (January 2024) where the school was given an inadequate judgement. Whilst the school had already begun to address the areas for improvement prior to the visit, we do not apologise for our relentless drive for school improvement as we believe our community deserves the very best provision for our young people. The successful candidate will be central to delivering our improvement strategy, as you transform both the school and our students’ futures.

This is therefore an exciting opportunity for someone who is ready to join a strong leadership team at the start of this journey of improvement. We stand by our aspiration of ‘excellence in all we do’ and need the successful applicant to embrace this philosophy.

The exact responsibilities for this post will be negotiated with the successful candidate based on their experience and skills but responsibilities will intrinsically be linked to Quality of Education for the school.

Therefore, the successful candidate should have experience in the following areas:

  • Ensuring a curriculum is ambitious and meets the needs of all students so that they can achieve a personal best in all subjects.
  • Working with Curriculum leaders so that all curriculum content is aspirational and builds upon and secures knowledge over time.
  • An expert ability to analyse data and produce robust action plans following this scrutiny.
  • Supporting staff to deliver consistently strong lessons through the use of evidence-based approaches to curriculum implementation.
  • Working with the SEND Lead to ensure that students with additional needs are making progress through the curriculum in line with their peers.
  • Ensuring that there is a culture of continual professional development by:
  1. analysing quality assurance data and identifying areas of strength.
  2. putting strategies in place to secure rapid improvement in areas of development for individual teachers and curriculum areas.
  • Planning and implementing a robust whole-staff professional development programme.
  • Ensuring quality assurance processes support staff to contribute to high-performing teams.

This post offers a superb opportunity for someone who is a current Assistant Headteacher seeking to gain wider impactful experience or someone looking to progress their career through direct involvement in rapid school improvement.

Please contact Fiona Nairne-White Deputy Headteacher, Quality of Education at fiona.nairne-white@churchillcc.org if you wish to arrange a visit or seek further information about the role.

If you are as excited by this challenge as we are and think this might be the role for you, please complete an application form, having taken note of the attachments and e-mail it to: recruitment@churchillcc.org by 9am on Monday 20th May 2024. Please note that we do not accept CVs. We intend for interviews to be held on Thursday 23rd May.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As such an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure will be sought along with other relevant pre-employment checks as appropriate.

Churchill Community College is an 11-18yrs comprehensive school in North Tyneside.

Churchill is very much a community school, and whilst the community we serve is enormously proud and supportive of the school, a significant proportion of our students come from low income or deprived households, with more than 40% of our cohort eligible for the Pupil Premium.

We aim to make all our young people feel completely safe, secure, valued and appreciative of the many opportunities their education here can afford them.

We set high standards in all areas and expect the very best from all members of our learning community. In return, we aim to provide excellent teaching and up-to-date curriculum provision with high quality pastoral care and an outstanding range of opportunities beyond the classroom for all learners. We believe these are the hallmarks of a truly successful school.
